Whitening curtains at home. How to bleach tulle effectively and quickly at home. How to bleach old tulle

Windows decorated with snow-white tulle give a special airiness, freshness and elegance to the home. But, like all white fabrics, synthetic tulle accumulates dirt and quickly loses its dazzling quality. The sun's rays “burn out” the structure of the fabric, street dust pollution penetrates inside, particles of kitchen soot and burning over time change the whiteness of the tulle to a dull grayish-yellow hue, and become saturated with cigarette smoke if there are smokers among the household members.

The most radical and impatient housewives are beginning to think about changing tulle curtains. But let's avoid hasty purchases. The shine of tulle will definitely return if you follow time-tested tips that will teach you how to properly bleach your favorite tulle at home using folk remedies at minimal financial cost.

Read in this article:

Revealing the secrets of whitening

When a critical mass of dirt and the patience of a neat housewife reaches the limit, the curtains are sent to the wash. But with tulle, paradoxically, permanent washing does not help save the situation, but leads to the opposite result. The whiteness of the fabric is not restored, but, on the contrary, stubbornly takes on a smoky hue.

Either industrial household chemicals or the folk methods of our mothers and grandmothers will help us bleach tulle.

Chemical bleaches

The modern chemical industry offers a great variety of bleaches with both whitening and additional stain-removing effects.

When bleaching, follow the instructions for the purchased product and observe the chemical protection rules. But remember that frequent use of chemicals breaks down fabric fibers until holes form.

Chemical bleach is added along with washing powder to the machine tray, or the tulle is soaked separately for 20-30 minutes in bleach after washing. Rinse thoroughly.

Homemade bleaches and how to use them

All whitening products are usually available at hand in any home. They are inexpensive, the method of application is simple even for novice housewives, the effort is minimal, and the result is snow-white and radiant.

It is very important that home bleaches do not lead to allergic consequences.

Salt

The genius of simplicity is confirmed by ordinary table salt, which perfectly removes dirt without being an allergen. To bleach the tulle we need 3 tbsp. tablespoons of coarsely ground non-iodized salt, which we mix with 10 liters of water and half a glass (by eye) of washing powder. Leave the tulle in this solution ideally overnight or for at least 3 hours. After time, wash either by hand or in a washing machine, and rinse thoroughly several times.

Zelenka

A funny combination of “bleach with brilliant green”...Nevertheless, we are not joking, because the result is precisely that the tulle will turn out really snow-white, even for very yellowed curtains.

Mix 10 drops of pharmaceutical green (diamond green) in 200 ml of water. You can add 2 tbsp to enhance the effect. spoons of salt with top. Let's see after a couple of minutes whether a precipitate has formed. If yes, then stir until completely uniformly dissolved to avoid the formation of green stains during bleaching. Pour the finished concentrate into a basin filled with water and rinse the tulle curtain one last time. You can hold it in the basin for 5 minutes, turning it over periodically. Having taken out the tulle, we do not wring it out, but hang it up and let the water drain, and then dry it in a straightened form until the end.

Blue

We immerse the pre-washed tulle in a bleaching container in which one capful of blue is dissolved in 10 liters of water. We check the solution for the absence of sedimentary lumps that could cause stains on the fabric. We rinse the tulle alternately in blue, then in water. When washing in an automatic machine, add a cap of blue to the rinse aid tray.

Ammonia and hydrogen peroxide

An excellent folk remedy for whitening sensitive nylon tulle and organza is ammonia mixed with hydrogen peroxide. They are available in every pharmacy and are inexpensive. Depending on the availability of time, we choose different methods of whitening.

Express method. Pour 1 tbsp into water above 50 degrees. a spoonful of ammonia and 2 tbsp. spoons of hydrogen peroxide. Mix the concentrate well with a spoon. Soak the fabric to be bleached in it for half an hour, turning it over periodically. Then rinse thoroughly. Without squeezing, hang the straightened tulle to dry.

Night method. We soak the tulle for bleaching all night in a solution of water and a bottle of ammonia. In the morning, rinse thoroughly and hang to dry.

Bleaching with washing in an automatic machine. Add 20 ml of hydrogen peroxide solution to the washing powder tray along with it. Set the washing mode to “delicate”.

Starch

Pre-washed tulle by hand or in a machine is lowered for rinsing into a basin with a mixture of 200-300 grams of starch and 10 liters of water. We leave the curtains for 5 hours, then hang them up to dry without pressing them. The advantage of starch is not only its whitening properties, but also in giving relief shapes to tulle.

Laundry soap

Grate the laundry soap bar on a coarse grater and pour it into a metal container with water. Let the mixture boil and remove from the stove. Cool the soap solution by diluting it with slightly cool water until you obtain a warm mixture. Soak the tulle in it overnight. In the morning, wash the tulle and rinse thoroughly.

Whitening nylon curtains

Nylon tulle, for all its structural strength, requires a careful approach when washing and bleaching. It is extremely sensitive to chemicals, so it cannot be washed with bleach.

Make sure that the water temperature when washing does not exceed 30 degrees, and the machine wash mode is carried out at 400 rpm.

If during general cleaning you are faced with the problem of how to bleach tulle, then the best choice for this is soaking in salt solutions (one glass per 10-liter volume of water) or rinsing green or blue in an aqueous solution. Bleaching with a solution of potassium permanganate works in a similar way; in everyday life - potassium permanganate. We dilute grains of potassium permanganate in a three-liter jar of water until a faint pink tone is obtained. Add half a briquette of shaved laundry soap and mix until smooth and foam forms. Place the tulle in the solution for half an hour. Then we wash it in an automatic machine in the “Hand Wash” or “Delicate Wash” mode.

Whitening organza curtains

Organza tulle is very delicate and therefore requires a careful approach both when washing and when bleaching. Do not heat the water above 40 degrees for both processes. For bleaching, soaking in brilliant green, blue, salt or hydrogen peroxide with ammonia is suitable.

Starch bleaching is considered the best for organza, giving it a relief of shape and a radiant white color.

After rinsing, the tulle hangs immediately without twisting.

Bleaching old tulle curtains

Old and very yellowed tulle curtains will have to work longer to bleach them to their original whiteness. Here you should combine several sequential techniques:

  • first - wash in the machine;
  • boil by boiling in a strong solution of laundry soap;
  • bleach by soaking in a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia;
  • rinse in saline solution;
  • rinse in starch solution to finish.

Bleaching in a washing machine

To minimize effort and when time is short, it is possible to bleach tulle in a washing machine. To do this you need:

  • pre-wash the tulle by hand;
  • Before using the machine, make sure that the drum is clean and that there is no colored laundry left in it after the last cycle in order to avoid accidental staining;
  • place the tulle in a special mesh bag to prevent deformation of the fabric;
  • wash in the “delicate” mode with a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees and a speed of 400.

  • after removing the curtain, shake the tulle thoroughly outside the house to remove dust particles as much as possible so that they do not then become absorbed into the fibers of the fabric;
  • Before washing, soak very dirty curtains overnight in water with powder;
  • Tulle should be washed at a water temperature no higher than 40 degrees, so that the yellowness does not become permanently ingrained into the fibers of the fabric;
  • always rewash curtains before bleaching;
  • When washing by hand, do not rub the fabric, but only slightly squeeze it while turning it over;
  • relatively new tulle can be washed with the addition of store-bought bleach;
  • Bleached curtains should not be twisted or wrung out by hand, including in the spin program of a washing machine. Having taken the tulle out of the basin, hang it so as to allow the water to drain, and then hang it in a semi-damp state on the cornice. The folds straighten under the weight of the tulle;
  • when ironing, use a low-heat iron so that synthetics do not turn yellow again under the influence of high temperatures;

We hope that folk technologies based on long-known home remedies will help you bleach tulle at home and breathe new dazzling white life into it, giving you a feeling of freshness and aesthetic pleasure.

Airy curtains made of white transparent tulle have remained a classic window design for many years. Regardless of the material used, window curtains lose their whiteness over time under the influence of the sun, dust, rust and salts in washing water. Buying new high-quality curtains is not cheap, nor is washing them dry-cleaned.

There is no need to be upset; there are many inexpensive home remedies that will help you cope with the task without spending much money and time. Experienced housewives are happy to share their secrets on how to bleach gray tulle at home.

Chemical bleaches

The first word is about whitening products, which can be purchased without problems in any department of household chemicals. This method can be used no more than once, and it is not advisable. The fact is that such preparations destroy the delicate structure of tulle, especially those made from natural fibers, and soon lead to severe yellowing, which is very difficult to remove.

Salt

Any washing powder or liquid laundry detergent is diluted in warm water, and three to five tablespoons of ordinary kitchen salt are added to the solution. The tulle is soaked for at least 3 hours, ideally overnight. If you wish, you can also wash the curtain in the machine as usual, or rinse it immediately after soaking. D To consolidate the result, you can also add salt to the water for rinsing the powder.

The only drawback of this method is the long soaking time.

Blue

Pre-washed tulle is blued in this way. The procedure can be carried out either manually or in an automatic machine.

When manually rinsing after washing, the curtain is dipped in the prepared blue solution. Proportion: half a teaspoon of product per bucket of water. Second rinse - no bluing. The curtain is immediately shaken and hung.

When washing in an automatic machine, a small amount of blue is added to the conditioner compartment.

Disadvantage of the method- blue particles that are not thoroughly mixed can form streaks or stains. For this reason, hand rinsing is more reliable.

Zelenka

To prepare the solution, leave 5-10 drops of brilliant green in a glass of water, then carefully filter through cheesecloth and mix with 10 liters of warm water. Clean tulle is soaked in the prepared liquid for 5 minutes, constantly turning the fabric over.

Minus: an incorrectly prepared solution with sediment can spoil the fabric with green spots.

Peroxide and ammonia

This method works very well, but only for tulle made from natural fabrics. Proportions of the mixture for bleaching: 1 tablespoon of ammonia, 2-3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide per bucket of hot (50 - 60o) water. A clean curtain is soaked in a basin for 30 minutes, after which it is thoroughly rinsed and lightly wrung out.

Starch

Starching not only makes delicate curtains whiter, but also adds shine and lasting shape to them.

For starching, brew the paste like jelly, using 1 tablespoon of starch for every liter of water.

You need to make sure that there are no lumps in the resulting solution. After washing, the tulle is soaked in starch water for 5-6 hours and dried without spinning.

Potassium permanganate and laundry soap

These products, when combined, produce unexpectedly brilliant and long-lasting results. Tulle curtains are washed in a soap solution with the addition of potassium permanganate, after soaking for half an hour.

Aspirin

For whitening, it is enough to dissolve 4 tablets of regular aspirin in 5 liters of warm water. Soak the curtains for at least 3 hours and wash as usual.

Attention! Effervescent aspirin is not suitable for this purpose; it contains additives that only add yellowness.

Boiling

This is my grandmother's method, in which fabrics were bleached by boiling them in a basin with soap or powder for at least an hour. When manually boiling, such a “brew” must be constantly monitored.

Modern technology comes to the rescue in this case too: automatic washing machines have a washing function at high temperatures - this is the same as boiling.

Disadvantage of the method- undesirable for nylon curtains.

Strong gray on the curtains

You can bleach tulle, which has turned gray over time for a long time, in several stages: boiling with the addition of citric acid, soaking and washing with hydrogen peroxide and ammonia, soaking in salt, starching and bluing.

Our home is our fortress and we want it to be cozy, beautiful and well-groomed. White, airy tulle on the windows makes the kitchen bright and comfortable. But over time, from exposure to sunlight, dust and smoke, snow-white curtains lose their original appearance. The fabric becomes yellowed or gray, and the room looks uncomfortable and unkempt.

Caring for tulle requires special knowledge and skills and a little more time, but the results are usually excellent. Thanks to inexpensive means and little effort, you can turn your favorite curtains into elegant and formal ones.

So, you've decided to dedicate the day to turning your curtains into new ones. Carefully remove them and shake them thoroughly to remove any accumulated dust.

To soak the product, take a large container and carefully fold the curtains to avoid unnecessary creases and not spoil the structure of the fabric.

You need to soak the tulle in lukewarm water, no more than 35 degrees. Pour two tablespoons of soda and a little powder into the water; experienced housewives recommend using “Persol”. Two hours of soaking is enough. After that, remove the fabric from the water, gently wring it out and proceed to washing.

How to whiten tulle from stains, grayness and yellowness: the best ways

Our grandmothers did not know household chemicals, but their curtains and bed linen were sparkling clean because they used well-proven folk remedies.

Nowadays, such means have not lost their relevance. On the shelves of every housewife there is salt and baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate, which will help solve the problem with yellowed curtains and revive them to a new life.

Starch

Regular potato starch can help you whiten gray tulle.

  1. After soaking, wash the tulle in the machine, and then prepare the starch and a large container.
  2. Dilute a quarter kilogram of starch in a bucket of warm water and place the curtains there for six hours.
  3. Then remove them from the solution, and without trying to wring them out, hang them to dry.
  4. This is a cheap method that will not only provide dazzling whiteness to the curtains, but also give them shape.

The only drawback of this method is that it takes a lot of time.

  1. After soaking, take a large container and dissolve 6 tablespoons of table salt and a little washing powder in warm water.
  2. Leave the curtains there overnight and rinse in cool water in the morning.

On a note: If the tulle is very dirty, then first wash it in the machine, and also rinse it with the addition of salt and soda. This method is quite cheap, in addition, it can also be used for curtains in a child’s room. Neither salt nor soda are allergens.

Aspirin

You may be very surprised that ordinary aspirin, which helps us with headaches, can return the product to its original appearance and freshness.

  1. Take 6-7 aspirin tablets and dissolve them in seven liters of cold water.
  2. Soak the tulle in the mixture and leave overnight.
  3. In the morning, you can rinse the product a little and hang it up.

If the curtains are not too dirty, then you can pour this mixture into the washing machine and wash the items in the delicate wash program. The result will also be impressive.

Note: this method is suitable not only for washing tulle curtains, but it can also bleach bed linen.

To bleach with potassium permanganate, prepare a large container for water, a piece of alkaline laundry soap, and manganese permanganate.

  1. Grate 100 g of soap on a fine grater.
  2. Dissolve a little potassium permanganate in a glass of water, stir, see if there is any sediment, and pour everything into a bowl of warm water.As a result, you should get slightly pinkish water with soapy foam.
  3. Place the tulle there for an hour, no more, and then wash it in a washing machine and rinse.

This method gives a magnificent look to the product, and the result lasts quite a long time: the curtains do not turn yellow or gray.

Lemon acid

Prepare 50 g of citric acid. Soak the tulle in a large container of warm water. Lather the product thoroughly, create a dense foam, and then pour citric acid into the water and leave for 3-4 hours. Then rinse and hang to dry without squeezing.If the first procedure did not help, then repeat it again.

  1. To bleach tulle, prepare 20 g of hydrogen peroxide and 60 g of ammonia.
  2. Heat the water to 60 degrees and pour in what you need. Mix everything thoroughly and dip the curtains into the solution.
  3. After half an hour, remove the tulle from the water, do not wring or rinse, but hang it carefully to dry.

But this method has a rather aggressive effect on the fabric, so it cannot be used for delicate fabrics; it is best suited for cotton products.

Laundry soap

Regular laundry soap will be an excellent assistant in any household chores. Take a piece of soap and grate it on a fine grater, pour water into a large saucepan, add grated soap and place the container on the fire.

While the water is heating, take a packet of potato starch and dissolve it in water (about 5 liters). When the soap and water become hot, stir the mixture and pour into a large container where you previously soaked the curtains in cold water. Leave the product for 5 hours.

After this time, remove the curtains from the water and place them in a starch solution for a quarter of an hour. Wring out the tulle very carefully, allow the water to drain, and then hang to dry.

Boric acid

Using boric acid for bleaching is an excellent method, completely unfairly forgotten.

First, wash the tulle with laundry soap.

  • Then pour 8 liters of water into a container, add one pack of boric acid, a little washing powder and 3 tbsp of baking soda.
  • Soap the curtains generously again and place them in this solution.
  • Leave for several hours, but periodically knead and turn over.
  • Then gently squeeze and rinse in two to three waters.

If the curtains are very yellowed, you may have to work for two days, but the result will pleasantly surprise you.

How to bleach old tulle at home

Old yellowed or grayed curtains require special care. You will have to work some magic on them to bring them to a snow-white state.

  • The first step is to wash them in a washing machine with any powder.
  • After which you can boil them in a soapy solution and rinse thoroughly.
  • Place in a solution with ammonia and hydrogen peroxide for bleaching.
  • Rinse thoroughly in a solution of salt and soda.
  • Place in a starch solution for five minutes, then dry and iron thoroughly.

Of course, it will take a lot of time, but the curtains will look like they were just bought.

Boiling method for gray and yellowed fabric

Boiling or boiling fabric is an ancient bleaching method that was successfully used at the beginning of the last century. But today, windows are draped with delicate fabrics that under no circumstances should even be washed in hot water.

The boiling method is only suitable for cotton fabrics.

  • Heat water to a boil (about 8-10 liters) and add a glass of soap shavings to it.
  • Stir well so that there are no lumps left in the water, and then place the wet tulle into the solution.

IMPORTANT: the tulle must first be soaked in washing powder with soda and salt.

  • The product should be boiled for an hour, stirring every 10 minutes.
  • Then cool a little and rinse thoroughly; you can add a few drops of blue to the rinsing water.

Cotton tulle can be boiled and bleached using any folk remedies and household chemicals. The only thing is to make sure that there is no chlorine in the bleach, as it strongly destroys the fabric.

Delicate air curtains require special care and delicate washing. Before carrying out the bleaching procedure, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the fabrics.

Organza

This type of fabric is very delicate; it cannot be twisted, crumpled or washed in hot water. But such fabric attracts dust like a magnet and they very quickly lose their festive and solemn appearance.

You can wash such fabric only in water heated to 40 degrees and use ammonia or hydrogen peroxide for bleaching.

Veil

Curtains made of voile fabric are airy and thin fibers that quickly collect all the dust. Many housewives do not want to wash and bleach such products themselves because they are afraid of spoiling them.

But to wash such tulle, you can use the bleaching method with the addition of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide (in a 2:1 ratio). Curtains should be soaked in this solution for three quarters of an hour, then rinsed and dried in a horizontal position.If the product requires ironing, then set the iron to minimum power.

Nylon is a new generation fabric that requires special care. This fabric is sensitive to chemicals, so it is not recommended to wash it with bleach. Yellowed nylon curtains can be easily bleached using brilliant green.

  • Pre-wash the tulle by hand with the addition of washing powder. The water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. Then rinse the product well.
  • Take 3 tbsp. spoons of table salt and dissolve in a quarter liter of hot water.
  • Add 8-10 drops of brilliant green solution and let sit for five minutes. The product should completely dissolve.
  • Carefully pour the mixture into a bowl of water (10 liters), stir and lower the tulle into it.

Avoid allowing sediment to get into the water as it can easily turn the tulle green.

  • Leave the product for 3-4 minutes, but do not forget to turn the fabric over several times.
  • Then rinse them a little and hang them to dry.

Nylon curtains will decorate windows with beautiful folds if you pre-treat them with starch and then iron them with a warm iron.

Chiffon

Chiffon is also sensitive to high temperatures, so do not use water heated to more than 30 degrees.

First, soak the chiffon curtains in a solution of laundry soap for 4 hours. Then place it in lukewarm water to bleach and use only gentle bleaching agents. Do not keep the product in water for more than 30 minutes.

Rinse in cold water. Do not squeeze under any circumstances, let the water drain, and only then hang to dry.

IMPORTANT: a heavily soiled chiffon curtain is best washed by hand and with laundry soap, and when rinsing, add a little table salt to the water.

If you have an automatic machine on your household, then your work on caring for tulle will be significantly easier.

  • Shake out the curtains from dust and soak in cool water with a spoonful of baking soda and salt for 3-4 hours.
  • Very delicate fabric can be placed in a laundry bag or mesh case, after carefully folding it.
  • Place the curtains in the drum of the machine and set the delicate wash mode; to improve the result, add professional bleach, but make sure that it does not contain chlorine.
  • The spin speed must be set to minimum. It's better to disable this feature altogether.
  • After finishing the washing cycle, carefully straighten the tulle and hang it to dry.

If your elegant curtains have lost their elegant look, do not be afraid of new expenses, but try to revive them with the help of old, but proven over decades, means. With a minimum of effort, you will get amazing results and avoid unnecessary expenses.

Nowadays, there are many options for how to hide in an apartment from direct sunlight, but despite this, modern housewives still consider tulle the most comfortable interior detail. That's why, how to bleach tulle, is still of interest to many housewives. Sometimes there is a desire to dress up the windows in bright colors or colors of warm shades, but still it is snow-white tulle that creates the feeling of celebration and solemnity.

But even the highest quality tulle can lose its snow-white appearance after a few years and acquire a yellowish-gray tint. Despite this, there is no need to rush to replace it with a new one. It’s enough to know a few secrets, using which you can easily return the former novelty to your favorite tulle.

How to whiten at home?

In order to bleach tulle efficiently, there are many ways - from using traditional means to folk methods. Traditional remedies include all kinds of bleaches and stain removers, while folk remedies include the simplest ingredients that every housewife has in her home: salt, hydrogen peroxide, starch.

In the first case, it is enough to go to any store and buy bleach and stain remover, brightly colored with a colorful label covering the entire display case. But don't forget that frequent use of white to bleach tulle can gradually destroy its delicate structure, and one day you can take out a long piece of fabric from the washing machine, which just before your eyes begins to unravel into thin threads. It should also be remembered that Bleach is not suitable for all types of tulle, therefore, carefully study the instructions for use and recommendations for which fabrics this chemical is suitable for, so that during bleaching you do not acquire new yellow spots. If you often use bleach, this can cause the fabric to adapt to it, so it is possible that if you need to bleach your tulle again, this product may no longer help.

There are cases when you can only deal with the problem using bleach, for example, if you need to bleach kitchen curtains that have already absorbed traces of soot and grease.

Now let's get started bleaching tulle with white. To begin this procedure, you need to take a deep basin, the bleach itself and gloves for soaking, so as not to burn the skin with chlorine. For six liters of hot water, take three caps of white, mix everything thoroughly, immerse the tulle in it and leave for several hours. After this, rinse well and put the washing machine on a gentle cycle, adding fabric softener. After this procedure, we hang the tulle in the fresh air so that the smell of whiteness disappears thoroughly.

Now let's try whiten tulle with stain remover. It also has the effective property of bleaching fabric, but is more gentle on its structure and has a pleasant smell, so after getting rid of stains and yellow plaque, additional washing to eliminate the smell is not necessary.

If there are any stains on the surface of the tulle, you must first treat them with a stain remover, and then leave the fabric to bleach for 45 minutes. At this time, you should prepare a solution for soaking: add as much of the substance as indicated in the instructions to a bowl of warm water, stir thoroughly, immerse the tulle in water for several hours, but for more effective bleaching, you can leave it overnight. After bleaching, the tulle must be thoroughly rinsed, excess moisture allowed to drain without twisting, after which the snow-white tulle can be hung again in the fresh air.

When thinking about what else can effectively bleach tulle, do not forget about a well-tested method boiling laundry. But This method can only be used for natural fabrics made from cotton or linen.. To prevent white fabric from acquiring a reddish tint of rust when boiling, you need to use stainless steel or enameled utensils. To periodically stir the tulle and to achieve the maximum bleaching effect, you will need a wooden stick or a wooden spoon, which every housewife most likely has at home.

In prepared water, you need to dissolve bleach, which is suitable for boiling, and laundry soap; you can also add a little soda: it will make the structure of the fabric a little softer and stains will be removed more easily. It is necessary to bleach tulle by boiling In one hour, then you can take out the tulle and put it in warm water to rinse thoroughly, and then into cool water. Let the moisture drain without twisting and hang the tulle in fresh air.

If the tulle does not have any special dirt or stains, then you can bleach it using normal washing. Immediately before putting the tulle in the drum, you need to clean it of accumulated dust, then soak the tulle for thirty minutes in a warm soapy solution, then you can put it in the machine on a delicate washing cycle or wash it by hand. After completing the wash, either allow the excess moisture to drain without twisting, or put it on a light spin cycle in the washing machine, setting the speed to minimum.

Whitening with folk remedies

You can bleach tulle at home using a variety of folk remedies.

One such means is 3% hydrogen peroxide(H 2 O 2) and ammonia(ammonium hydroxide). This composition has a very effective bleaching property, therefore, by using this mixture, you can efficiently and quickly return the snow-white appearance to your tulle, or any white things. Into the container you choose, you need to pour ten liters of water at a temperature of 30 degrees, diluting two tablespoons of 3% H 2 O 2 and one tablespoon of ammonium hydroxide. Before soaking the tulle, it must be washed so that there is no accumulation of dust on the surface. It is necessary to immerse the tulle completely so that not a single island of fabric remains on the surface, because as a result of uneven immersion, yellow spots may appear, and the entire bleaching process will be in vain. Leave the tulle to bleach in this solution for 30 minutes, after which the fabric can be thoroughly rinsed and hung outside in direct sunlight, as they are also an excellent natural bleach.

A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia is the most effective composition for bleaching synthetic fabrics, since they cannot be washed at high temperatures and boiled, and in general the components of this solution are excellent at combating yellowness and gray stains on white things.

The simplest method of bleaching tulle at home using H 2 O 2 is washing in a washing machine. To do this, you need to immerse the tulle in the drum, set the temperature to 40 degrees, you don’t have to set the spin mode at all or at the very minimum. Place 10 hydroperite tablets in a container for powder and detergents and wash on a delicate cycle.

You can bleach tulle at home with salt. The method is very simple, and most importantly, accessible to everyone. Before the bleaching procedure, you need to thoroughly shake off the dust from the tulle and wash it in warm soapy water. If you use this method for nylon tulle, you need to make sure that the water is barely warm, otherwise during the bleaching process the nylon tulle will turn yellow.. To make the solution you will need ten liters of water, washing powder (preferably gel) and ten tablespoons of rock salt. For maximum whitening effect, it is best to leave the tulle in this solution overnight.

Synthetic tulle can also be bleached with salt, but the bleaching procedure is somewhat different. First you need to wash the tulle well, rinse it, and after that, instead of a second rinse, soak the tulle in a strong saline solution. This should be done as follows: fill a bucket of water halfway, add five tablespoons of regular rock salt and immerse the tulle for twenty minutes. In this case, when soaking in salt is the final stage of bleaching, the solution will give the fabric a little stiffness. In addition, to bleach tulle made from nylon fabrics and organza, before washing, soak them in a saline solution at the rate of five tablespoons of salt per five liters of water, because salt perfectly absorbs all the dust.

Another effective folk remedy for whitening tulle is. To do this, place the tulle in slightly hot water, in which starch has already been dissolved. The tulle must be kept in this solution for thirty minutes, then rinsed and hung in fresh air. Thanks to this method, you will not only return the snow-white appearance to your tulle, but also the fabric will acquire a slight stiffness. This is an excellent way to further get rid of soot and dirt, since starch particles will, like a magnet, accumulate all the dust, and during subsequent washes, all dirt will be easily washed off.

The following method of bleaching tulle at home will seem bizarre to you, because we will use potassium permanganate. Few people will believe that water with a crimson tint can return the fabric to its snow-white appearance. But this is exactly how a solution of weak potassium permanganate and laundry soap will behave. This method will work great with the gray shade of your tulle. First you need to dissolve several crystals of potassium permanganate in a glass of water. In a bucket or basin, dilute 150 grams of 72% laundry soap in warm water and gradually introduce manganese solution into it. For maximum whiteness effect, the tulle is kept in this solution for 30 minutes, then rinsed thoroughly according to the usual procedure. You can simplify this method somewhat by simply soaping the entire tulle with laundry soap and dipping it into a solution of potassium permanganate. According to many housewives, this method is the most effective in the fight against yellowness and gray plaque.

The oldest substance for giving fresh whiteness to tulle is blue. To bleach tulle using this method, dilute one and a half caps of blue in warm water (30 degrees) and lower the tulle into it for 20 minutes. At this time, it is imperative to stir the contents so that there are no blue spots on the tulle and the entire fabric becomes evenly white. If you want to wash the tulle in the washing machine, you can add a cap of blue tulle to the detergent container. The result will be similar.

Bleaching tulle with brilliant green

After reading this title, it’s unlikely that any of you believed that you can bleach tulle with brilliant green. But this is true, and this method is very effective in combating the yellowness of your favorite curtains. Of course, to achieve maximum results, you will need to tinker a little, but at the end of the procedures you will be delighted.

You must first wash the tulle, ridding it of accumulated dust and soot. To do this, soak the tulle in warm soapy water overnight. The temperature should not exceed 30 degrees, otherwise you may not get rid of yellowed areas and gray tint of the fabric.

The tulle will need to be washed in the morning. If you decide to do this in a washing machine, then select the delicate mode, but if by hand, then do it in slightly warm water (25 degrees), adding a soap solution. After washing, place the tulle in a basin and fill it with water (5 l). Separately, we make a saline solution by dissolving six tablespoons of rock salt in a liter of water and adding this solution to the water with tulle.

After two hours, you need to rinse the tulle several times. During the last rinsing of the fabric, you need to do the following manipulations:

Features of bleaching organza and nylon tulle

If your tulle is made of nylon fibers or organza, it requires especially careful care. It is generally accepted that nylon tulle is very capricious, very quickly loses its pristine whiteness and acquires a yellow tint.

Let's consider the procedure for bleaching nylon tulle (everything needs to be done in cold water):

  • first of all, you need to wash the fabric in a way that is most suitable for you;
  • after getting rid of the dirt, immerse the tulle in a strong salt solution, which we prepare as follows: for every four liters of cool water, add five tablespoons of extra salt;
  • immerse the tulle in water and leave for 15 minutes;
  • Under no circumstances do we rinse the nylon tulle, we simply let the excess moisture drain, and then hang it on the cornice, where it will smooth out under its own weight.

In many homes, preference is given to curtains made of organza. This is a very beautiful material that has many shades and transmits sunlight well. But, despite the fact that organza is not difficult to care for, it requires as much attention as tulle made from other types of fabric. Polyester does not retain color for a long time; this type of fabric fiber attracts dust very well.

Since organza is quite rigid, it will be quite difficult to bleach such tulle, since you cannot avoid the wrinkled effect after washing and twisting.

The most effective remedy that will help you whiten organza tulle is starch. To do this, you need to dissolve 300 grams of starch in slightly warm water and immerse the tulle in the solution for several hours. After this, you should take out the organza, but under no circumstances twist it. Hang it on the clothesline, carefully straightening out all the folds. The relief and deep color of starched tulle will surprise you, and this method of bleaching will captivate you with its simplicity and effectiveness.

Beautifully designed windows add completeness and style to the room. But only if the window tulle retains its whiteness and feeling of freshness. Unfortunately, under the influence of the sun, as well as due to dust and other contaminants, curtains often acquire a grayish or yellowish tint. Don't immediately revise your budget to allocate funds for new window decorations. Tulle can be bleached, returning it to its original whiteness.

Methods for bleaching curtains

There are several ways to help make tulle snow-white again. Both hand washing and using a washing machine give good results. As a laundry detergent, you can use not only synthetic detergents, but also proven folk methods. Many housewives have already chosen “their” product, effective and reliable.

Important! Before bleaching, you must first thoroughly shake off the fabric to remove dust. Bleaching of dusty fabrics will be uneven and stains will appear on the curtains.

If you haven't tried bleaching your curtains at home yet, we'll tell you how to do it so that you'll be pleased with the results.

Bleaching curtains in the washing machine

Thin and delicate fabric, which is used to sew tulle curtains, does not exclude the use of a washing machine for washing and bleaching them. In order for the procedure to restore whiteness without damaging the fabric, you need to choose the right mode and detergent.

Pre-soak

The washing result will not disappoint if the curtains are pre-soaked. First, thoroughly shake off the dust from the curtains. Then they are immersed in a bowl of warm soapy water and left for several hours or overnight.

Mode

After soaking, the tulle can be washed. For delicate fabrics, only a delicate wash cycle with a minimum temperature (30°), double rinse, and a low number of revolutions (400) is suitable.

Important! To avoid creases in the material and make it easier to smooth out, you need to carefully roll the tulle before putting it in the drum of the washing machine.

Chemicals

An important point to achieve results is the choice of detergent. You can use any chemical suitable for your car, but only if one condition is met: the substance must not contain chlorine. In this case, washing can clean the material without damaging it.

Manual whitening

You can also wash the tulle by hand. If you choose the right product, this is easy to do. Not only special synthetics are suitable for this, but also simple substances that every housewife has.

Simple remedies

Salt

Table salt can bleach various materials well, so experienced housewives often use it when doing laundry. Salt will also not harm the delicate fabric of window curtains if it is properly diluted in warm water. Solution proportions: salt - 1-2 tbsp. l., water - 5 l. The curtains are immersed in water with salt and left there for 0.5 hours. Do not rub the fabric; you can carefully turn it over, trying to keep all the material under water. Then the curtains are rinsed in cool water and dried.

Blue

A rinse in blue water will return the curtains to their former whiteness.

Important! When using blue, curtains are washed first. Bluing material that has not been washed may leave stains on it.

Washed curtains can be rinsed in a special solution. Pour blue (1 capful) into cold water (8–10 l), stir thoroughly until the water turns blue. Immerse the curtains in water and rinse them thoroughly. After this, all that remains is to dry the tulle and hang it on the windows.

Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia

In many first aid kits you will find a disinfectant such as hydrogen peroxide. It can also be successfully used for household purposes, for bleaching curtains. Peroxide is especially effective in combination with ammonia. Method of using the drugs: add peroxide (2 tbsp) and ammonia (1 tbsp) to 5 liters of cold water. Everything is stirred until smooth, after which the tulle is dipped into the solution. After the fabric is completely immersed in the liquid, the material is kept for half an hour. During this time, the fabric bleaches; all that remains is to rinse it.

Zelenka

Another remedy from the first aid kit is a solution of brilliant green. Green paint will also do the job well and make the curtains snow-white. You should be careful when growing greens. First, the substance is diluted in a small amount of water: 10 to 15 drops of brilliant green are enough for 1 glass. Mix the greens and water thoroughly, and then leave the glass for 5-10 minutes to check if sediment appears in the liquid.

Important! If the drops of brilliant green do not completely dissolve during initial stirring, you need to stir the liquid again or strain it.

A glass with completely dissolved greenery is added to a washing container (basin, bucket) with a sufficient amount (8–10 l) of warm water and stirred thoroughly again. Now the curtains, which must be pre-washed, are immersed in the green liquid. There is no need to leave the fabric in the green solution for a long time, 3-5 minutes is enough. During this time, it will be useful to carefully turn the material over several times. When using green paint, additional rinsing of the curtains is not required.

Store products

Modern industry produces various synthetic products that can be used to bleach tulle curtains.

Bleaches

When choosing a bleach, you need to be attentive to its composition and properties. The use of chlorine-containing substances is not recommended: they can lead to rapid wear of the delicate material. But the use of oxygen bleach will return the material to its white color, and at the same time will not harm the structure of the fabric. A good result will be achieved by using optical brightener.

Important! Optical brightener is not recommended for patterned fabrics; it is most suitable for smooth materials.

The method of using bleaches is simple. Bleaching can be combined with washing. In this case, bleach is added to the machine, like detergent, only in a different compartment. Or you can dilute bleach in water and soak the washed curtain. In any case, you must strictly follow the instructions for using a particular substance. This way you can safely restore the fabric’s freshness.

White

Whiteness is the only reliable bleach for the older generation. Of course, you can preserve the traditions and use this composition today. The whiteness is reliable and copes with any dirt and stains. However, when choosing this product, you should keep in mind: when removing stains from fabric, whiteness has a destructive effect on the structure of materials. Delicate tulle will not be able to interact with whiteness, remaining unchanged. Any careless action or slight tension will lead to rupture of the structure damaged by whiteness.

Important! If you do decide to use bleach for whitening, do not use it constantly. A single application of whiteness will be optimal for fabric.

Stain removers

To return tulle curtains to their snow-white appearance, you can also use one of the modern stain removers. These compositions are designed to remove stains and dirt from various fabrics, including tulle. These chemicals must be used in strict accordance with the instructions for the specific substance. When removing stains, stain removers are applied only to problem areas, and then the entire curtain is washed. You can also bleach using a stain remover. In this case, the substance must be added to the water in which the fabric will be soaked. After soaking and subsequent washing, the tulle will become noticeably whiter.

Recommendations for bleaching different fabrics

  • Nylon fabrics can be bleached well using brilliant green, salt, blue, and laundry soap dissolved in water. Hot water is undesirable for nylon; the optimal temperature should not be higher than 30°; both hand and machine washing are possible.
  • Silk and chiffon fabrics prefer hand washing. For bleaching, it is best to add salt to water; you can mix it with laundry soap.
  • Cotton fabrics respond well to machine washing; you can also soak and wash them by hand with the addition of peroxide and ammonia.
  • It is better to bleach organza fabrics using simple products (salt, brilliant green, blue), which are added to warm (not higher than 30°) water. Stain removers and whiteness are not recommended.

Timely care and care of a proven product will help your curtains be snow-white all year round!
