Draped leather headband

Draped leather headband

This headband is decorated with rhinestones, but it is better to glue them only in the upper part of the product, since in other places they will cling to the hair and quickly fly off, leaving behind an ugly glue mark.

Materials and tools: base for the headband, thin leather, Moment glue, adhesive rhinestones, scissors, tweezers.

Product execution

First, cut out the back part of the headband. To do this, place one end of the headband on the skin (from the wrong side) and circle. Then, gradually rolling the rim, circle the rest of the part.

On the wrong side of the headband, with the right side facing out, glue the edge of the leather flap. Then, after the glue has dried, drape the remaining flap and glue it to the front of the headband.

When the drapery is dry, cut off the excess, leaving only the edge for the hem. Fold the remaining leather over to the wrong side and glue. Cover the inside of the rim with the part that was cut out at the very beginning of the work.

Glue the rhinestones randomly between the folds of the drapery, pressing them with tweezers (Fig. 168).

The headband is not only popular, but also very fashion accessory for hair. There are already several fashion seasons In a row, fashion creators decorate the heads of their models with beautiful headbands. And why are you and I any worse? We need headbands too! But finding a headband you like is not so easy. We suggest making a headband with your own hands!

But in general, making a headband is not so easy. Of course, if we are not talking about an elastic band. But the elastic headband is not so good for New Year's hairstyles - there is not enough holiday in it. It’s much simpler (and more interesting) to decorate a hairband with your own hands - beads, rhinestones, beads, ribbons...

DIY headband from scratch

Okay, let’s tell you at the same time how to make an elastic band. Nothing complicated - you just need perseverance and maximum accuracy. You will need something beautiful (braid, lace, an old jewelry necklace) or not so beautiful (leather laces, thin strips of knitwear beautiful color- at least from old t-shirt). You will also need a small piece of elastic band. We securely secure the elastic band with a machine or by hand to the ends of the braid, lace, or, using a needle and monofilament, to the edges of the necklace. With rope laces it’s a little more complicated - you can use them to create an intricate weave (braid, macrame, “lucky knots”), and then secure the ends in the same way with an elastic band, closing them in a circle. Look at the picture how this is done, you will quickly understand.

However, elastic headbands are not suitable for every hairstyle. Therefore, we will try to decorate simple plastic headbands. Here is freedom for a creative nature!

The decoration of the headband can be done using any materials suitable for the occasion. You probably remember that when your mother dressed you up kindergarten A snowflake, decorated the headband with tinsel. But we will go further - we make festive decorations for the headbands so that they can be worn not only in New Year, and in general on any holiday.

Decorating headbands with rhinestones is the very first thing that comes to mind. There are several solutions here that can be combined into two groups.

The first is decoration with rhinestones of the same size, but different colors. Essentially the same diamond mosaic, only without a diagram. Done this way:

  • choose an ornamental stripe (you can search among cross-stitch or jacquard knitting patterns);
  • select rhinestones of the required colors in sufficient quantities;
  • stock up on transparent glue (for example, Moment Crystal is suitable) and tweezers with thin legs– even from the same diamond mosaic;
  • Carefully, smearing small areas of the rim with glue, from the middle of the workpiece and from the middle of the ornament, fill the entire surface with a pattern of rhinestones.

Alternatively, you can choose a pattern that will decorate the headband, but not hide it entirely in the shine of rhinestones. In this case, they work with glue differently - they lubricate the rhinestones themselves, and not the bezel.

The second is to decorate the headband with rhinestones of different sizes. In principle, you can add any other decorations to the rhinestones - beads, beads unsuitable for weaving, even fragments of costume jewelry. We work in a similar way:

  • We come up with a composition from the existing decorations, arranging them in a variety of order;
  • when the composition is thought up, we draw a diagram or sketch so as not to confuse anything;
  • Using glue and tweezers, decorate the headband with a composition of rhinestones.

Need I say that both decoration techniques can be combined?

Decorating hair headbands with beads is more versatile.

Firstly, you can work with beads in the same way as with rhinestones - it will work original decoration in the Huichol technique.

Secondly, the headband can be braided with beads. Of course, you only need to braid the outer part of the rim. Again, here you can go two ways: braid the headband with monofilament, immediately securing the weave to the headband with broaches, or first create a weave and then simply stick it on the headband. By the way, such luxurious beaded motifs as wicker flowers, snowflakes, leaves, as well as cabochon stones braided with beads, look wonderful on the bezel.

Thirdly, the headband can be embroidered with beads. Of course, only if you have a fabric headband. However, for those who really want to achieve something, a plastic blank is not an obstacle - after all, it can also be covered with fabric.

Beads are almost the same beads, only larger. Therefore, you can decorate the headband with beads in the same way as in the case of beads - stick, braid, embroider. However, it is worth noting that beads still differ from seed beads in their size. Therefore, there is one more point - the decoration on the beaded rim. The decoration is created separately on a leather or felt backing, and then glued to the headband.

Headband with ears

And yet we are now talking not so much about holidays in general, but about New Year's Eve. What is New Year? Not only a Christmas tree and Olivier, but also a costume ball! If you don’t believe me, ask your children or remember your own childhood. This means that you may well need New Year's Eve headband with ears - if you want to transform into a bunny, squirrel or a symbol of the coming year, a dog.

All kinds of headbands, headbands, hairpins, plaits, hair decorations - all this is fashionable, beautiful, modern and in demand. Why not make yourself a hair decoration? This could be a DIY headband, a turban, plaits or fabric hairbands. For girls, you can make a crown or a unicorn on the headband (patterns are included).

The easiest option: how to make a hairband with your own hands - use wire, beads or flowers. You don’t always have a headband on hand that can be decorated. In this case, a wire rim is what you need to create a decoration. It is easiest to work with thin wire with a diameter of 0.5 or 0.3 mm. This wire is used in beading and is sold in craft stores.

This kind of rim can be made from 0.3 mm wire. and beads.

You can change the design, make the wire cells smaller - everything is in your hands. The technique itself is very simple: take a large piece of wire, bend it in half and twist 4 cm, then bend these 4 cm into a ring, to which an elastic band or chain is attached at the end.

Then there are 10 cm without decoration - just twisted wire. And then, at approximately the same distance, you twist these “honeycombs”, putting a bead on a “twig” of wire. Nothing complicated, everything ingenious is simple! I think that instead of beads, you can use beads, stringing them on a wire, and if you make small flowers from beads with your own hands, you will already have a twig with a flower.

If you want to know more details, watch the master class on this decor.

Look at what a beautiful beaded beaded bezel you can make on a thin base:

Such a headband with white beads can be made for a wedding. Here the thin bezel itself is braided with wire and beads. Decorated with beads and roses made of polymer clay.

Roses can be made from ribbon, felt, leather or any nylon fabric.

Hairbands can also be made from thick wire, and decorations can be different.

Felt headbands - ideas and master class

How to decorate a headband? Multi-colored felt works well for this. Felt can be replaced with leather, suede, felt. Handmade felt flowers make beautiful decorations. Felt products are in no way inferior to felt jewelry.

Felt headband - master class

You can make an original decoration made of felt with an elastic band or on a headband with your own hands. In terms of costs, it turns out to be very cheap, and such decoration looks quite interesting and fashionable.

To work you will need:

  1. Felt in three colors: burgundy, pink and green.
  2. Some beads.
  3. Thick wool thread.
  4. Thick needle.
  5. Elastic band or headband.

Use a ruler to estimate the size big flower. Print or draw a pattern by hand and pin it to the felt.

We cut out these details.

Then we add 2 more pink flowers to the large burgundy flowers. Notice how they are cut: the pink felt protrudes slightly beyond the cut of the burgundy felt.

We folded it, and now we take a needle with a thick thread and sew our design, stitching right through.

All that remains is to cover our structure with the second circle. That's all. The autumn felt accessory is ready.

Hairband with flowers - master class

It's no secret that bandages are one of the most fashion jewelry for hair today. Soft comfortable base, inexpensive cost - after all, such beautiful bandage can be made from leftover fabric, from any scraps of leather, suede, or just from an old T-shirt. Such stylish headbands are decorated with butterflies, rhinestones, beads, and so on.

To work you will need:

  1. Flowers, ready-made or made with your own hands.
  2. Glue Moment.
  3. Wire.
  4. Beads.
  5. Some beads.
  6. Elastic and fabric for the base.
  7. Centimeter.
  8. Pencil, ruler.

We measure the volume of the head with a centimeter. ⅓ of the total volume will be elastic. We measure the length of the base, make a piece of fabric: put the 2 parts together, stitch them and turn them inside out. Please allow 1 cm allowance. We apply the base to the elastic band and secure it with pins. Don't forget to turn the edges in 1 cm. Measure on your head. If everything suits you, sew it on, stepping back from the edge by 0.3 mm. You can sew by hand, a machine is welcome.

We make flowers from ribbons, organza, or. We arrange the flowers on the bandage.

Apply glue to the base of the flower and glue it to the fabric base.

We make this additional decoration from twisted wire, beads and seed beads.

Glue or sew one or more branches to the base. A handmade fashion accessory is ready.

Jewelry such as hair plaits appeared relatively recently. Especially popular among Americans. They look very interesting. The most complex harness is called the Celtic knot.

Making such a rope is not difficult, you need to take a thick rope, cut it into pieces 75-80 cm long. Next, take fabric or knitwear of the same length and width, equal to the diameter of the rope plus 1 cm. Stitch from the wrong side and turn it inside out. We make a Celtic knot and stitch it with a needle and thread to match the color of the fabric. This is necessary so that our knot does not come apart. Trim off the excess. Sew on elastic or tape.

This type of tourniquet is also called Greek. You can also make a tourniquet from an old T-shirt. It is enough to cut the strips, stretch them by the ends so that they curl into tubes. Tie a knot, sew the ends together, or simply tie.

To work you will need:

  1. Light fabric - width from 14 to 18 cm, length - 70-75 cm (2 strips). You can simply cut a long scarf.
  2. Centimeter.
  3. Threads to match the color of the fabric.
  4. Pins, scissors.
  5. Beads or rhinestones (optional).
  6. Thin wire 0.3 or 0.5 mm. (Needed for the turban to keep its shape).

We measure the head. The bandage should be no smaller, but slightly larger in size than the head. We fold both strips lengthwise and stitch the edges of both, leaving a 4-5 cm section unstitched - this is necessary for turning it inside out. We also stitch the transverse ends. Turn it inside out. It turned out to be two “pipes”. Bend the ends of the wire (make a loop at both ends). Place the wire into one of the pipes, inserting it into the sharp corner of the “pipe” and sewing it with thread. Sew open areas with a blind stitch. Next, we lay out both “pipes” on the table. Red “pipe” on top.

Pass one “pipe” into the other, as in the photo. We thread the red part into the burgundy one. Pull out the burgundy piece so that both “pipes” are connected together. Manually secure the joints of the parts with invisible stitches.

Today I'll show you perfect way how to make a base for a headband. With this universal option, you can trim a headband of any width with velvet and lace.

The work is quite painstaking, so it requires accuracy and patience. But as a result, you will get a velvety base with a smooth backside. The main seam will be on top and can be easily covered with any decor.

We will need the following materials and tools:

  1. Velvet ribbon 12 mm wide;
  2. Lace;
  3. Sharp scissors;
  4. Monofilament and needle;
  5. Lighter;
  6. Base for rim 7 mm;

You will find some of what you need at home or in the nearest store. You can buy many materials for needlework in my store in the materials section.

Watch the video of the master class.

Description and order of work

  1. Measure the length of the rim along the outer edge. I got 38 cm. Add to this value another 1.5 cm on each side. Result: 41 cm. We measure this value on a velvet ribbon and cut it off.

  2. We apply our piece of velvet ribbon to the headband as shown in the photo, retreating 1.5 cm from the edge of the headband.

  3. Using scissors, cut out a 1.5 cm long tip that will cover our metal blank for the rim.

  4. We should get a tip like this.

  5. We apply the resulting blank to the rim to check the dimensions.

  6. We take a lighter and process the edges of the cuts.

  7. We begin to close the tip of the rim. First, fold the central, long part of the velvet ribbon towards the rim. Then fold the two edges towards the middle of the rim.

  8. We should end up with a neat ponytail like this.

  9. We take monofilament and a needle and begin to sew along the joining line of the velvet ribbon in the center of the headband.

  10. We get a smooth, defect-free inner side of the rim.

  11. The main seam goes along outside rim.

  12. We sew almost to the end. At the end, on the other side of the rim, we cut out and form the tip in the same way.

  13. Fold and close the second tip of the rim. Using a needle and monofilament we fasten the elements.

  14. We have a velvet base for the headband. You can leave it as is, or you can decorate it with lace.

  15. In a similar way, we form the tip of the rim on one side and the other and fasten the edges using monofilament.

  16. This is the neat edge we should get. Sew the edges of the lace to the end. We form the second tip and close the rim completely.

  17. If you look at the inside of the headband, it looks luxurious. Ideal, openwork, neat. The main seam still runs along the central, outer part of the rim.

Using a Headband Base

The base for the rim is a blank that comes in different widths and lengths. You can view and choose the basis for your headband in our online store. For example, metal bases for the rim are found in widths from 1 to 10 mm. And plastic ones from 10 to 35 mm.

Don’t forget that this is a blank, not a rim, so it needs to be prepared: sheathed, wrapped, tightened. There are jewelry that have a “bare” base, but this is not only sloppy and ugly, but also unpleasant in everyday use.

Our jewelry is absolutely safe and comfortable, including due to the high-quality hair base. You can easily verify this by looking at our luxurious hairbands. Absolutely all headbands are made of safe, high-quality materials. The headbands do not press and do not cause discomfort.

My jewelry with velvet base

By the way, I use this technique of tightening blanks not only when creating headbands, but also hair clips. Therefore, I suggest you look at my jewelry with a velvet, perfect backside. Get inspired and create!
