How to sleep on the road - tips and tricks. In order to avoid this, you need to adhere to simple principles

FORUMHOUSE Academy.

Nuances that affect the quality of painting and the durability of a house built of wood.

Wood is a general construction material with a centuries-old history. Despite many positive qualities - ease of processing, widespread use, environmental friendliness, spectacular appearance, wooden houses need protection from negative atmospheric influences.

  • In this part of the training course we will talk about what nuances need to be taken into account when painting wood and answer the following questions:
  • What does a violation of wood coloring technology lead to?
  • Why is it necessary to prepare a wooden surface before painting it?

What are the most common mistakes made when painting a wooden house?

Basic principles of wood staining

As construction practice shows, defects in the painted decorative coating of a house built of wood are caused by violations of work technology, as well as incorrectly selected materials.

Any mistake made at the preparation stage can negate all the work done and lead to the need for expensive repairs in the future. The photograph below shows typical problems that can arise if the technology for painting the walls of a wooden house is violated.

As you can see, the decorative coating is peeling off, and the wood has begun to turn grey. If the work technology is violated and the wrong tool is chosen, after 2-3 years the paint layer may begin to deteriorate. At the same time, an unprotected layer of wood is exposed under the peeling paint.

As a result, the wooden surface, under the influence of UV radiation, first turns gray, then turns blue and can begin to rot, because the antiseptic is washed away by rain, and the wood is no longer protected from the harmful effects of moisture. The facade of the house loses its attractive appearance and its performance characteristics.

To avoid this, you must follow the recommendations of specialists.

Adverse atmospheric conditions - rain, snow, wind, ultraviolet radiation, as well as mold and fungi, can lead to accelerated destruction of wood. To protect the facade of a wooden house, it must be treated with special means, while adhering to a certain procedure.

The first mistake that an inexperienced builder can make is improperly preparing the surface before painting it or completely ignoring this stage.

The need to prepare a wooden surface

Often, novice developers do not think about the need to pre-prepare a wooden surface before applying protective and paint materials, for example, antiseptic or protective oil for exterior use.

The user reasons that if he purchased a quality product, then the product will work on its own. This opinion is wrong. Before applying special products, the wooden surface must be prepared.

The fact is that when sawing wood and its subsequent planing (planing), defects remain on the surface: microcracks, nicks, mechanical damage. In addition, because the workpieces were processed on machines, the pores of the wood were jammed with metal and closed.

Because of this, the antiseptic will not be able to penetrate deeply into the wood, as a result, its concentration will decrease, which leads to a decrease in the service life of the coating. Subsequently, when finishing the wood, processing defects may also appear on it, and the texture of the wood will not be expressed as clearly as planned.

Conclusion: preliminary surface preparation is a necessary and important part of the wood painting system.

To prepare the surface before applying protective and finishing agents, it must be sanded. Moreover, this is done according to a certain scheme.

  • First, we grind using a coarse abrasive material with a grit size of P 60-80. This will help us level the surface, remove the old layer of wood and eliminate roughing defects.
  • For final grinding of the surface we use abrasive with grit P 120.

  • The letter “P” is expressed by numbers from 12 to 5000. The larger the number in the designation, the smaller the grain size, and vice versa.

The better we sand the wood, the deeper the antiseptic will penetrate into its structure. In this case, such a mistake is often made as using abrasive with P 80 grain instead of the recommended P 120 for finishing grinding.

If these parameters are neglected, the roughly sanded surface will strongly absorb oil. As a result: its consumption will increase, the product will lie unevenly, which will lead to the formation of stains. Also, most of the oil will simply be absorbed into the wood, so the treated surface will be poorly protected from adverse weather conditions.

Typical mistakes made when painting a wooden house

Sanding the surface is only part of the correct technology for painting a wooden facade. After sanding, before final painting, the wood must be treated with a special antiseptic that will protect the wood from the development of fungus, blue stains and mold.

In this case, such a mistake may be made.

When choosing a water-based antiseptic primer for its application, the ambient temperature should be at least +12 °C. But many people forget that this temperature also refers to the drying temperature. If the work on applying the product was completed in the evening, then at night the temperature may drop to +5 - +8 ° C, which is a violation of technology.

An alternative to aqueous antiseptics can be an oil-based antiseptic primer, because... In addition to protecting wood, the product can be applied to the surface at a minimum temperature of +5 ° C and a maximum humidity of 40%. This allows you to extend the construction season rather than wait for favorable weather conditions.

After the antiseptic primer has dried, we proceed directly to painting the surface of the wood. In addition to choosing a quality product that meets the stated characteristics, to ensure high-quality painting it is necessary to adhere to certain technological processes.

The coloring agent must be combined with the product used to preservative the wood. If you do not follow this rule and use products to protect the wood that form a film on the treated surface, then when the oil is applied finally, it will not be able to penetrate the pores of the wood and will peel off over time.

Paints based on natural oils, which penetrate into the wood structure, cannot be applied over varnishes and paints, which form a polymer film and prevent the oil from penetrating into the wood structure.

A similar mistake is to use water-based antiseptics in combination with oils for external work. You can get a completely different shade of the painted facade.

Of course, it is important to follow all technological steps, but in addition, to apply antiseptics and oil-based finishes, you must use the right tools.

Brushes are most often chosen for applying antiseptics, oils and glazes.

    Sereda Evgeniy

Despite the ease of use and accessibility of this tool, there are a number of tricks that you need to know about in advance. It is better to choose brushes with mixed or natural bristles and dense padding, about 10-20 mm.

The dense packing of the brush ensures better distribution of the product on the surface without leaving streaks. Also holds a good amount of product without requiring frequent dips of the brush into the jar.

    Sereda Evgeniy

Also, do not forget that you should not paint your house in direct sunlight.

It is not recommended to apply oil in very hot weather or in direct sunlight. At high temperatures, the viscosity of the product changes and it becomes more liquid. Product consumption increases. Smudges may remain after application. As a result, there may not be enough grams on the surface to provide lasting protection.

It is also a mistake to paint wood after rain. It is necessary that the surface is completely dry, otherwise the oil will curdle from the wet wood.

The final touch when painting a wooden surface is to ensure a sufficient volume of air in the area where the work is being done (especially when working indoors). The fact is that the process of polymerization (drying) of oil occurs when it interacts with oxygen. If there is not enough air, the surface will take a long time to dry. Therefore, we adhere to the recommended drying time. This is 7-10 days. Moreover, all this time you need to regularly ventilate the room.

    Summarizing

    Sereda Evgeniy

When choosing paint for exterior or interior decoration, one significant mistake is often made. The calculation of the estimate for painting the surface should not be based on the price of 1 liter of product, but based on the cost of processing 1 sq. m. m of finished surface and the cost of updating it in 10-15 years.

At a low price for traditional film-forming compositions, their processing consumption is 1 sq. m can reach up to 200-300 g, and the consumption of oil-containing products is 2-3 times less, which ultimately leads to a reduction in costs in the long term.

Many people who frequently travel by bus face the problem of insomnia.

To avoid this, you must follow the recommendations of experts:

    • On the eve of the trip, you should not sleep during the day; it is even better to “not sleep enough” at night, so that it is easier to fall asleep during the trip.
    • If the bus journey is long, do not indulge in coffee and tea. You can take a milk drink to the salon, which will provide the body with carbohydrates, which activate the production of substances responsible for falling asleep. Dinner should be light, do not overload your stomach. Give preference to yoghurts and curds. Sweet food will help you relax on the road. You shouldn’t overeat on the bus, because a full belly will not allow you to fall asleep easily and peacefully.
    • If conditions in the cabin allow (smooth movement of the bus and normal level of lighting), you can read a little. In this case, reading is a good alternative to physical activity, which is necessary for proper rest. You will feel relaxed after reading and will be able to fall asleep faster.
    • Think about your clothing items in advance - you should be as comfortable as possible on the bus. Things that are too warm are clearly not suitable. Think about what you feel comfortable in. Outerwear can be removed and placed on the top shelf. You can wear a tracksuit - it does not restrict movement and is comfortable.
    • The noise of the engine and the snoring of a neighbor are not the best attributes of a bus trip, but there is no escape from it. Bring earplugs or use headphones and play music on your smartphone. Many people fall asleep much better to the sounds of their favorite songs and melodies. You will not react to extraneous sounds and will be able to fall asleep quickly.
    • If the bus makes a stop, but you are not going to sleep yet, be sure to get off. This will give you the opportunity to stretch and get some fresh air. Especially if you travel in the summer and the bus is stuffy.

If such methods are not enough, you will have to use non-medicinal drugs. For example, valerian tea (pre-brewed at home) will help you relax and fall asleep. Also, the pharmacy can offer you a whole arsenal of medications that are aimed at combating insomnia. As a rule, they contain plant components: valerian, hawthorn, motherwort (“Persen”, “Novo-passit”, “Trioson”). Such remedies calm the nervous system and are not addictive. Available without a doctor's prescription.

Modern sleep centers offer a unique service - brain music. Using special equipment, the electroencephalogram of a person in a state of relaxation and rest is recorded, and then translated into musical format. The recording can be downloaded to your player or smartphone and listened to on the bus before going to bed.

In the morning, upon arrival at your destination, it is better to take a shower, do exercises or take a short walk around the city. Include a large amount of protein in your breakfast, it will help you get into work mode and activate brain activity. To finally wake up, you can drink a cup of coffee before lunch. But “overnights” will be unnecessary. It’s better to wait until the evening and go to bed at your usual time or an hour earlier.

How many tabs do you have open in your browser? Right now? I think more than ten. Perhaps twenty. Some are needed for research, some help you stay in touch with colleagues and clients, some are open for fun while no one is looking. It doesn’t matter why you need these tabs - they still don’t help. We can no longer just sit down and do one thing. I admit, while I was writing this post, I was checking my email and responding to tweets.

Caesar could do it, so can I

If you constantly work, switching from one task to another, you can develop a habit and become an expert at multitasking. And learn to immediately filter all information to become a productivity genius. Which of the two statements is correct?

None. Researchers have found that “multi-station users” are much worse at navigating the information flow and cannot quickly separate important information from garbage. There are a couple of isolated examples of people who can do everything at once, but these are exceptions, not the rule.

    What distracts us the most?

What most often causes us to break away from work?

For me, the greatest evil is the endless stream of new letters. I think many people struggle with this. Friends and colleagues also complain about their inboxes. We believe that we should answer all letters, but if we do this, there will be no time left for anything else.

Messages have become so ingrained into the workflow that many people are obsessed with making sure there are no unread messages in their inbox. And when the counter shows zero, it feels like we've found the Holy Grail of the digital world.

No matter how many new messages there are in the mailbox, they bother us. And that's why:

    1. We are expected to respond instantly

It takes time to write and send a response. You don't have to respond right away; you can easily put the letter off until you're ready to deal with it.

We are always within reach. Left the office? So what, you can check your email using your smartphone or tablet. What can interfere?

Social expectations dictate that we must reply. We don't want to upset the sender. I use an email plugin that allows me to see when recipients open my messages. And while I'm against immediate response to email, it's hard to avoid feeling annoyed when someone reads an email but takes the time to respond.

    2. Anyone can write.

It is unlikely that you would send a letter by regular mail to someone you do not know.

But our approach to email is different. We do not hesitate to find out someone's email by any means. When we receive it, the hunting season can be considered open. Electronic communications are so impersonal that we can send hundreds of letters to complete strangers.

Boxes are filled with “cold” messages. We waste valuable minutes trying to filter them, sending them to the archive and to the trash. What frustrates me most is that people who send such mailings receive almost no response to them. There is no point in sending letters with a hint of personalization; people also delete them without reading them.

    3. Emails force you to make immediate decisions.

While we are wading through letters, we have to make a lot of decisions, and this process puts a lot of stress on the brain. Throwing all our energy into constantly changing objects of attention, we waste energy and fuel on the frantic work of the brain, and then we feel tired and exhausted.

Even popular email management apps designed to save you time sorting through your mail don't eliminate the need to constantly decide: Should you respond right now or put it off until tomorrow?

How to stop wasting time and become more productive

If you are expecting universal advice from me that will immediately solve all problems, then I have to disappoint you. There is no ready-made solution, but there are tactics you need to follow to avoid multitasking and become more productive.

    1. Plan things in the evening

I didn't open America to you, but this method works. Ten minutes in the evening making a list of the main tasks for the next day helps you focus on your work.

List the tasks that absolutely need to be completed tomorrow, and start checking your email and messages only after you have completed all the items on the list.

    2. Use the Pomodoro Time Management Technique

I use it myself and am very pleased with it. It is a time management technique developed by Italian Francesco Zirillo in the late 1980s.

Divide your workday into several 25-minute periods of intense, intense work, between which there should be five minutes of rest. The method is based on the hypothesis that frequent breaks stimulate mental activity.

I use 25-minute chunks to get through the main tasks I have planned in the evening. And during breaks, I switch to parsing mail and checking alerts.

    3. Set aside a special time in your schedule for mail.

I myself use other methods, but many experts advise setting aside a separate time in your schedule for sorting correspondence.

Set aside a space in your planner to dedicate part of your day to reading emails, responding to tweets and messages, and only open your email during those times. Turn off notifications on your smartphone and browser to adhere to this rule, even if you are afraid of accidentally missing an urgent email.

    Results

There is no one to blame for the fact that we have to do so many things at once. Forcing yourself to ignore incoming messages and stop jumping from one thing to another is not an easy task.

Every message we send helps us eat our happiness hormones by the spoonful and gives us a feeling of satisfaction when it seems like we are so organized and responsible. The truth is different: we are simply distracted from an important matter.

It is very difficult to stop this. But I like to concentrate only on work. Try one of the methods I recommended and compare your productivity before and after.

P.S. You can listen to music

Don't worry, you won't have to close iTunes! Other parts of the brain are responsible for listening to music; their activity does not interfere with your work, which means it does not reduce productivity.

What do you do to avoid being distracted by small things?

We have collected twenty-one golden rules that will help you build good relationships with other people.
Relationships are the basic tool through which the path to success and achievement of life goals lies. People who lived during Soviet times felt the need for good relations more acutely. After all, in order to get something, you needed acquaintances. For example, if it was necessary to buy meat, instead of counter bones, one had to know a butcher or someone who knew a butcher. And even today, it’s difficult in life for those who don’t know how to build relationships.
    1. Support and praise people at every opportunity. Your approval acts as fertilizer for human growth.
    2. Never ridicule or humiliate anyone.
    3. Say only good things about a person. If you have nothing positive to say about someone else, it is better to remain silent.
    4. Be attentive to people's affairs, then you will always have a reason to praise others, and not to flatter them.
    5. Focus on the person's positive qualities. If he is not yet noble and wise enough, then see him as such a person. And this person will definitely want to confirm this.
    6. Don't criticize people. If you nevertheless begin to criticize, then let it be addressed to his actions, and not to the person’s personality.
    7. You should not constantly demonstrate your superiority over other people. This way you will only make enemies for yourself. If you want to be friends with people, then let them feel their own importance next to you.
    8. Always notice your own mistakes and guilt - and apologize.
    9. To be listened to, it is better to propose than to issue orders.
    10. Irritation is a signal that a person needs help and support. Therefore, treat this condition of people with understanding.
    11. Be a good listener and talk less.
    12. Sometimes let us know that a good idea came from someone else. After all, it doesn’t matter who was first, what’s more important is what it can lead to.
    13. If you think that a person is wrong, then interrupting him will still not stop him. Until he speaks out, he will insist on his own.
    14. If you want to be able to stop any argument, then admit that you may be wrong. Then the cause of the conflict will disappear and the dispute will cease.
    15. Give gifts to people more often without any reason. This will show that you are not waiting for the holidays, but want to please the person every day.
    16. If something annoys you, be patient, remain silent, restrain your emotions. Don't cut everything from the very beginning. Just let the person speak, and you will pay attention to those moments that appeal to you. At the end of the conversation, notify your opponent that you will think about what was said.
    17. Make it your motto: be interested in people rather than arouse their interest.
    18. Smile.
    19. Address the person by their full name. This is much nicer than hearing an abbreviated name or some nickname. This way you show respect for his personality.
    20. Try to end the conversation in such a way that the person remains in a good mood.
    21. Learn to forgive.
Apply these rules to improve your own relationships with others. Don't try to cover the whole spectrum, start practicing little by little so that you can eventually do everything. Once you achieve perfection, people will be grateful and reciprocate.

Most people believe, and especially pay a lot of attention in recommendations on how to achieve success, that productivity is based on effective time management. It would seem that everything is simple - you spend less time on nonsense, more time on achieving your goals. However, if you look at the experience of people who have achieved outstanding results in art, politics and business, it becomes clear that the key to their success is definitely not that they spent more time working than others, although thousands of other entrepreneurs and start-ups did not work Fewer hours on your projects.

It turns out that time management is, at a minimum, not the secret of success and not even the most significant tool for achieving goals. It’s logical - I can effectively plan my day as much as I want, manage to do a lot of things, and maybe even set priorities correctly, but this does not guarantee me results at all, because, in the end, what matters is not how much I manage, but how I manage in a way, individually to my nature and purpose, I do all this. And if it works out great for me, then it’s not at all a fact that it will work out just as well for you, if you take it and do everything as a carbon copy. The conversation here is not about the fact that you don’t need to copy everything and reinvent your wheel in everything, no. It is necessary to express yourself individually, using the experience you already have while simultaneously observing how your energy is embodied in something.

But if managing your time effectively is not the basis for productivity, then what is?

WHAT DIFFERENTS SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE FROM UNHAPPY PEOPLE IS WHERE THEIR FOCUS OF ATTENTION, HOW, WHO AND WHAT THEY SPEND THEIR ENERGY ON.

Our key resource is not time, but energy...

Everyone knows that the same thing can be done with different results. Whether you're meeting with partners or working out at the gym, writing a business plan, or just hanging out with friends, the key to the end result is the quality of time spent, not the quantity. Depending on how focused and energized you are to do a particular task, you will get one or another result. You can work out a business strategy in a day, or you can struggle with it for a month to no avail. In the same way, at a meeting you can behave proactively and offer mutually beneficial terms of cooperation, or you can prove everything to everyone or behave passively, but in the end achieve nothing. In the gym, depending on your physical and emotional state, you can work out hard, or you can get injured due to negligence or inattention. Well, in the end, at a meeting with friends you can charge those around you with energy and have fun, or you can personify despondency by staring at your phone.

In all these cases, everything is in order with time management - priorities are set, time is allocated, we do what we need to do. But to make the most of this time, you also need to be motivated and focused. Simply put, in order to do something well, we need energy to do it. Moreover, it is different, both physical, mental and emotional. Unfortunately, unlike our smartphones, we are not able to process incoming information at astronomical speeds around the clock and with stable quality of the result. The work of our body is based on periodization and the regime of constant wear and tear, which dictates to us a constant flow of incoming information and requests from the outside, leads to the accumulation of fatigue and, as a result, a drop in productivity, no matter how well we plan our day. Without enough energy to implement a plan, it will not be possible to implement it, even if we have a lot of time in stock. And energy is allocated to us only for our tasks and for our method of execution, which we do not know. And if everything happens incorrectly, then the losses will be large - we seem to be “blown away” energetically in order to protect ourselves.

Fortunately, learning how to use your internal resources wisely and replenish them effectively is not difficult.

    ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Firstly, it is important to understand that energy consists of two components - the individual energy structure and the method of its manifestation, and only then - physical readiness for the feats of the working day. At the same time, in absolutely any business, both components are significant. A small trick, in this case, lies in the principle “a healthy mind in a healthy body,” that is, working on your energy state inevitably leads to a general increase in tone and motivation, which is different for everyone. Conventionally, all people can be divided into two groups - energy and non-energy types, where there are many subgroups with their own characteristics. Therefore, for some, doing something all the time, while for others, doing one thing, but significant and sometimes, makes it possible to achieve results.

Simply put, instead of trying to occupy all your time with activities and be “more productive” as a result, you should understand that you need to alternate periods of hard work with periods of equally hard rest, dumping “energy junk” in order to replenish your energy reserves and be in working order. You can replenish energy in different ways - for some it is reading a fiction book, for others it is active recreation in the fresh air, but you need to rest regularly and without fail. In order to remain in an energetic state day after day and show stability in the results achieved, it is vital to have small rituals as sources of energy replenishment. Taking a walk during lunch, writing down your thoughts in a diary, playing sports, daily solitude, hobbies - all this can serve as a source of motivation and charge, giving strength to achieve your goals. Energy-replenishing activities and rest are as important for a business person as a proper training and nutrition system for a bodybuilder - without them, muscles do not grow.

Therefore, active physical activity is the most important step towards removing the conditioning of the surrounding world and restoring oneself.

Why physical activity and preferably more active than just a walk - because when actively doing something for 30 - 45 minutes, or even more - this is the same as walking quietly for half a day. During active exercise, the entire energy structure is reset and renewed through physics - through leaving the comfort zone (stress) to rest and recovery. Without rest, we only exhaust our strength and work hard, earning various problems and illnesses in the future. The same mechanism also works under active stress and risk, which many people become addicted to in various hobbies, sports, the need for speed - there are many ways, but there are many side effects and great dependence.

    HOW NOT TO WASTE ENERGY

Along with the importance of work-rest periodization, it makes sense for many of us to reconsider our approaches to energy expenditure. Often we spend it on unnecessary people, on unnecessary information and on actions that no one needs, depriving ourselves of the opportunity to invest it in what is really important.

In order to avoid this, you need to follow simple rules:

Where the focus of attention is, there is energy. What do you think about, falsely dream, get emotional, get angry, irritated, afraid - these are the main losses! How much energy do you really have in a day?

We often consume information too reactively. We check email on our smartphone first thing in the morning while still in bed, then check social media while driving to work. At work, we also sit down to email and spend an hour answering emails and processing someone's requests. Then we go to a meeting and by lunch, we are usually already overloaded with information that comes from outside. The information consumed in this mode is an energy absorber. It is not surprising that there is no strength left to do something truly important and correlated with our own goals and objectives. To avoid this, we can strongly recommend checking email and social networks no earlier than lunch, freeing up time in the first half of the day solely for working on your own goals and desired results.

The ability to correctly define goals and desired results is the most important skill of any busy person. What is business to you and are you in business? It sounds obvious, but often under the pressure of a huge flow of incoming information and requests from the outside, we forget about the main thing - why we do what we do, and what we strive for, and not forget about what exactly needs to be done to achieve them.

A good practice is to allocate time to solve separately strategic and tactical tasks, choose the main priorities and deal with them first. A task is twice as likely to be completed if it is in the first positions.

A very big absorber of energy is the need to meet the high expectations of others, especially loved ones and relatives. Even though they are not next to you at work, unnecessary motivation, like proving to someone that you are better, only leads to all kinds of losses. Moreover, we often fall into the simplest trap - we promise something to someone that we should not have promised. And then this promise hangs like a dead weight, forcing us to think about ourselves and feel guilty if we fail to fulfill it. The problem is that many of us are too eager to please others, taking on unnecessary responsibilities. To prevent this from happening, you need to promise less and do more. And, of course, fulfilling your obligations is the basis of a personal brand. It is important to be aware of this.

Usually, when people understand the need to manage their energy and time, it turns out that they need to develop a number of habits aimed at changing their lives for the better. Get up earlier, go to bed earlier, exercise, read in the evenings, make more phone calls, practice playing the guitar, go to events, etc. There is nothing more pointless than trying to develop all these habits at the same time, in one fell swoop. This is impossible, and after a week of unsuccessful attempts to go to bed earlier, go to the gym and engage in self-education, everything not only returns to normal, but there is a feeling that it is impossible to change the usual way of life. In fact, everything is possible, you just need to develop habits one at a time, one at a time. Start by getting rid of unnecessary dependencies. After this, develop the habit of going to bed earlier. Then give up the need to check email in the morning. Each of these steps causes a huge surge of energy, which inevitably transforms into results and satisfaction from them.

The basis of productivity is energy, motivation and the presence of an inner desire to achieve goals. In order to do something meaningful and feel normal at the same time, it is worth paying attention to our habits, as well as to what, on whom and how we spend our energy. This is, ultimately, what separates successful people from unsuccessful ones...
