How does God treat mentally retarded people? Why does God give some people birth defects like mental retardation? Illness reminds you of death

Marriage of mentally retarded people

Some families have mentally retarded children. We are talking about a mild form of mental underdevelopment, when the patient can take care of himself - he eats independently, keeps himself clean, and is able to perform simple manual and craft work that does not require mental stress. His mental age always lags behind his biological age. Families with such patients face problems when they want to marry them. For example, they fear that mental disability will be inherited by their children. Also, the girl’s family often does not want to marry her off as a mentally disabled person. Therefore, some rich families marry a girl from a poor family for their son, and, after a good dowry, the latter agree to the marriage.
The questions are:
1. Does the patient have mild mental retardation right to marry if his family can provide for him and his wife, or if he has inherited wealth?
2. If genetic testing and family history show that children of such a patient may be born with the same abnormalities, is marriage prohibited for him in order to prevent the increase in the number of mentally handicapped people in society? Is society or family committing a sin by forbidding this marriage?
3. In the absence of obstacles from Sharia law and medical parties, can this patient be allowed to marry if he has a guardian who will take care of him?

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. All praise and thanks be to Allah, peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

We thank you for your trust. We call upon Allah Almighty to illuminate our hearts for the truth and grant us blessings in this world and on the Day of Judgment. Amen.

A patient with a mild degree of mental retardation, mentioned in the question, has the right to get married, subject to all the canonical principles of marriage in Islam. If Sharia allows the marriage of an insane person and the marriage of a mentally ill person, then a person with mild mental retardation has even more the right to this. There is nothing wrong with such a marriage as long as they have those around them who will take care of them.

The books on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) of all well-known madhhabs contain entire chapters that examine the issues of marriage of an insane person and the establishment of compulsory guardianship over him. Thus, on the issue of establishing guardianship over a sick child, scientists differ on whether guardianship is the exclusive right of the father and grandfather, or whether it can pass to other relatives, and even to a judge. Such attention to the problems of mentally disabled people is aimed at their benefit and benefit, because they, like other people, have desires and feelings. They also need housing, food, care and attention, the only difference being that they have additional needs due to their condition.

For example, in the book of the Hanbali madhhab “Kashshaf al-kina” it is said: “As for the insane woman, all her relatives and guardians can marry her off if she shows an attraction to men. For she needs marriage to avoid harm from forbidden lust and debauchery. Receiving a dowry (mahr) and the necessary means of subsistence will protect her honor. Therefore, her marriage is considered permissible.” Her attraction to men can be learned from her speech, or her inclination towards their company, and other similar signs. If even one trusted doctor (in the absence of two doctors) says that marriage can cure the disease, then any of her relatives and guardians can marry her off, because in this case marriage is like treatment and is most favorable for her . Moreover, if there is no other guardian other than the judge, then he can also marry her off.

Despite the fact that there are differences between insane and mentally handicapped people, they also have something in common that has an impact in the matter of marriage. This is the fact that both of them are living people, capable of sexual intercourse, they have an innate desire to live in society, and they need care, guardianship and maintenance.

It is unnecessary to explain that the meaning of the institution of guardianship itself is to benefit the person under guardianship, and not to allow the trade in “white slaves” to flourish for criminal and immoral purposes.

Therefore, mentally handicapped people should not be discouraged from marrying because marriage and having children are not the same thing. IN family life There are such positive aspects as love between spouses, mercy and mutual assistance, the husband providing for his wife, kinship between families, and much more, including the birth of children. And if the birth of children were obligatory and the main meaning and purpose of marriage, then marriage between elderly and infertile people, as well as between children, would have no meaning and would be considered wrong.

This suggests that there is no necessary relationship between marriage and having children. In addition, on the recommendation of doctors, spouses have the opportunity to control the birth of children, taking into account the characteristics of each family.

Based on the normative basis in matters of guardianship, any actions of the guardian or parents in relation to the person under their care must be performed for the benefit of the ward. So, if the marriage of the ward has a real benefit for him, be it from the psychological, medical, or even financial side, then the guardian should not become an obstacle to the marriage. On the contrary, you can try to find a suitable match among people with similar disabilities, using the help of societies and organizations specializing in similar issues.

Question: Why does the Lord give some people birth defects like mental retardation! After all, the blind, the deaf, are capable of thoughts, and are not yet devoid of reason! and a child with mental retardation most likely has no idea about God, and in general, in principle, is not able to think! One might say, doomed to be a plant! Why is that? It's a shame for the people!
Good day to you, Emil!

The fact is that our world in its essence is a world that rejects the True God, so God for now gives us all the right to live as we see fit to live, and allows us to reap the fruits of what we do. “Whatever a man sows, that will he also reap: he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption...” ()

What do we sow into ourselves and others? Passions, lawlessness, disbelief neither in God nor in God, self-praise, pride, resentment, lies about the Truth, constant “I want it this way” and “I know better”, one’s own traditions, envy... and so on and so forth. Don’t you think it’s strange that despite all this, despite people’s almost complete lack of desire to fulfill the will of the True God, these same people still give birth to more or less healthy children? Isn't this a miracle? Each person sows his sins, seed by seed, and God still continues to give humanity the opportunity to give birth to healthy children, the opportunity to exist! After all, if God allows us to fully reap what we sow here, i.e. allows His justice to triumph without mercy, then in two or three generations intelligent life on earth will cease by itself, because every child born into the world will bear the consequences of all the sins of their ancestors ()

Yes, it is God who gives us punishments, but we ourselves are still the cause of these punishments. It is we who despise God, His Law and His mercy and stubbornly try to live by our own rules, not wanting to understand that all of them, no matter how soft and kind they may be, are from Satan. It is we who sow the seeds of evil into our genetic code, it is we who feed our physical body with what was never intended to be our food, it is we who weaken our immunity and our moral principles, and then we pass all this on to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, naively or brazenly believing that the seeds will not germinate, that because of our sins, neither blind, nor deaf, nor lame, nor mental retard will ever be born along our genetic line! And all this despite the fact that even secular science already confirms that the wrong life of ancestors affects the health of their descendants!

God's punishment is that He allows us and our descendants to reap what we sow. But who sows? God gives children congenital defects, but who persistently, with the whole way of their life, asks for this? Aren't they their ancestors?

But do you know what is most surprising in this whole situation? The amazing thing is that God can make punishment a blessing! ...if only people will allow Him to do so. A mentally retarded or physically handicapped child can be an even greater blessing for parents (and those around him) than a completely healthy baby. Through pain, fear, shock to their selfishness, shame, tears, the parents of a sick child will find themselves much closer to the One whose goal is not only to satisfy our basic human needs, but to save people from sin and death for Eternal Life. Even a child with mental retardation can be saved for Eternity, because if his parents love God and try to know their Lord as best as possible, then their knowledge will grow into a holy and righteous life, full of love, mercy and peace in Christ, and such a life will certainly be reflected on the disease-stricken mind of their child.

It says that the children of believing parents are holy, which means they belong to God, they are set apart for God, regardless of their educational or physical condition! Not a single human child is doomed to be a plant if his (her) parents stand on the path of understanding the love of the Lord, allow Christ to live in their hearts, filling them with all the fullness of God (). “But to Him who by the power that works in us can do incomparably more than all that we ask or think, To him be glory in the Church in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, from age to age. Amen" ().

Sincerely,

Very often in life we get sick, or our loved ones, acquaintances, neighbors, relatives, etc. get sick. But probably rarely do any of us think about what wisdom there is in the fact that Allah sends illness to us, in general, why get sick, etc.

After all, if you look at it superficially, a person feels bad from illness: he cannot sleep, eat, feels discomfort, coughs, something hurts. Why these hardships? What's the use of this?

Sometimes you can even hear the dissatisfaction of some people, for example, they say: “ It was wrong to get sick at the wrong time! ", "Oh this disease!", "Why do we even get sick?!", "If only this...I wouldn't be sick! ", etc. Praise to Allah is very rarely given from the lips of people.

In fact, illness is one of the mercies of Allah. She makes it clear that a person is weak and weak. A person who often, forgetting about the Creator, begins to feel omnipotent, not subject to deprivation, suddenly cannot even get rid of a basic cough, cannot get out of bed.

Only once in a hospital bed or bed at home does a person begin to understand that he is weak and frail. So, if a person is sick, there is no need to try to endure the pain on his legs, but he needs to be treated possible ways and think about the greatness of the Creator.

In addition to this, a person loses the taste for worldly things, that is, his mood and appetite drop, he feels lethargic, and he doesn’t want to do anything, including sin. In fact, a person cannot, no matter how hard he tries, commit a sin due to poor health, which is a mercy for the sick.

As the saying goes, there is a flip side to the coin , that is, there is another important benefit for a person who has suffered from illness - the washing away of his sins.

Illness washes away a person’s sins and is a test for him. Once, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill, Ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “O Messenger of Allah! You are very cold!” To which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied:

نَعَمْ وَالَّذِى نَفْسِى بِيَدِهِ مَا عَلَى الأَرْضِ مُسْلِمٌ يُصِيبُهُ أَذًى مِنْ مَرَضٍ فَمَا سِوَاهُ إِلاَّ حَطَّ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ خَطَايَاهُ كَمَا تَحُطُّ الشَّجَرَةُ وَرَقَهَا

"Yes, I swear by Allah, no harm comes to a Muslim except when Allah washes away his sins (through troubles and illnesses) just as leaves fall from a tree "(narrated by Imam al-Bukhari No. 5647). Of course, Prophets and Messengers are sinless, but the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is a testimony to his community in the forgiveness of their sins.

Also, Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"When a fever comes to a Muslim (a high temperature rises, a person becomes feverish), the soul turns to it (the heat): “What do you need from this body?” and the disease answers: “Oh, Beautiful soul! Truly, this body is pure (by submission to Allah), however, there were some sins that I want to wash away,” then the soul says in response: “(If so) Embrace it (the body) and clean" "

These hadiths clearly indicate that illness washes away sins, and also that it overtakes good people, as a test and purification, and the bad as an incentive.

Moreover, those most beloved by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were sick, and sometimes Muhammad himself (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted the illness of his favorites to visit him, for their purification and elevation in degrees.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that one day a fever came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the form of a black woman and a dialogue took place between them:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked:

-Who are you?

The woman replied:

-I am Ummu Muldim (fever).

Then Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked:

- And what are you doing? what is your activity?

The woman replied:

-I cover (the person) with heat, similar to the heat from the Gehenna of Hell.

Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) guessed that this fever was in the form of a woman.

The woman continued:

-O Messenger of Allah! Send me to the most beloved of your family so that I can embrace him.

Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) directed her to the Ansars (companions from Medina who helped Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him). Due to severe pain, the companions asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to turn to Allah with a prayer for healing, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.

After that, every time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them (those who had been ill), he said: “Oh, those whom the Almighty cleansed from sins "(Ibn Habban no. 181; al-Bayhaqi in al-Shiab no. 9967;

As for Allah’s mercy towards a person due to illness, what mercy is higher than the washing away of sins, cleansing from the harmful on the Day of Judgment and, accordingly, salvation during this difficult period for humanity, when every grain of evil will play important role in saving or punishing a person.

We will not be able to list and comprehend all the benefits that Allah bestows along with illness, but we will try to describe some to encourage patience in such difficult moments.

Jafar ibn Burkan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported from Sheikh ibn Ashja, from one of the men from the Muhajirs who visited the patient:

"It has come to my attention (legend) that the patient from his illness has four characteristics:

1) His deeds are not written down, that is, the pencil (with which they write) is torn off the paper.

2) He receives full rewards for good deeds, as if he had performed them while healthy.

3) Sins are forgiven

4) If he survives from this disease, he will live forgiven by Allah, and if he dies, he will die in forgiveness "("Tambih al-Ghafilin" p. 499).

Great scientists and righteous people performed more prayers and appeals to Allah when they were ill, because in this situation prayer is more acceptable by Allah. We, too, should not complain, but ask and constantly turn to Allah.

Illness reminds us of death.

Because fever, weakness and pain occur before death, illness is precisely a small analogue of the agony of death, and every living person needs to think about leaving this life. That is, than the disease is stronger, the greater the likelihood of leaving this life.

The question arises, why did the prophets (peace and blessings be upon them) get sick?

The prophets and messengers (peace and blessings be upon them) were sick and suffered so that they could become an example for their communities in their patience and behavior. Allah also showed the insignificance of this mortal world, full of diseases and problems, therefore Allah in the hadith “al-Qudsi” said:

لو كانت الدنيا تعدل عند الله جناح بعوضة ما سقى كافراً منها شربة ماء

"If this world were equal to the wing of a mosquito, then I would not give a sip of water from it to an infidel "(at-Tirmidhi) For the reward to be full, a person must be patient, trust in Allah and not complain.

Diseases that are vile and humiliating.

Not all diseases are exalted and desirable. There are diseases that Allah sends as a curse and humiliation on a people, they are often mentioned in books on Islamic law, and they are also mentioned in hadiths as a curse on nations and individual characters: leprosy, plague, tuberculosis, paralysis, etc. But, of course, there is no need to treat an individual patient as cursed, but rather ask for forgiveness of sins.

A person must take care of himself.

The fact that illness has advantages does not mean that a person should bring himself to a deplorable state, mock himself, for the body is an amanat (a thing given for safekeeping) to a person and he is obliged to preserve it.

The patient is obliged to undergo treatment, consult a doctor who will prescribe him treatment, because the Prophet himself (peace and blessings be upon him) was treated and said:

" لِكُلِّ دَاءٍ دَوَاءٌ فَإِذَا أُصِيبَ دَوَاءُ الدَّاءِ بَرَأَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Meaning: " There is a cure for every disease and when a cure for a disease is found, it will cure by the will of Allah "(Imam Muslim). Try not to get sick, but if you get sick by the will of Allah, then get treatment.

May Allah help us and give us perseverance in any condition!

Question: Is it true that people become disabled as punishment for some sins they have committed?

Answer: It is common knowledge that everything is good and bad for a person Allah Almighty gives, but not everything that seems bad to us is actually evil for us, and accordingly, what seems good to us is not always good.

For example, a patient often undergoes numerous painful procedures, including the removal of an organ, or takes medications that taste and smell unpleasant. But, having completed this entire course of treatment, following all the instructions of the attending physician, the patient gains health. Also, Allah Almighty subjects his slaves to tests so that through this they are healed of heart disease and their sins are forgiven.

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say:

لا يَمْرَضُ مُؤْمِنٌ وَلا مُؤْمِنَةٌ وَلا مُسْلِمٌ وَلا مُسْلِمَةٌ إِلا حَطَّ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطَايَاهُ

« If a believing man (mu'min) or a believing woman, Muslim or Muslim, falls ill, Allah Almighty will wash away their sins through this " (Imam Ahmad)

It is also reported from Utba ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

عجبٌ للمؤمن وجزعه من السقم ولو يعلم ما له في السقم أحب أن يكون سقيماً الدهر

« It’s amazing how impatient a mu’min is with illnesses; if he knew what benefits illnesses contain for him, he would want to be sick all his life " (Tabarani)

In addition, when a person falls ill and is unable to perform one or another worship that he periodically performed, Allah Almighty credits him with a reward similar to what he would have done if he had performed this worship.

Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

« Whoever suffers illness in his body, Allah Almighty gives instructions to the angels who protect this person and says to them: “You write down for my slave every day and every night a reward for the good deeds that he did before (when he was healthy) while he is under my care "". (Hakim)

Another version of this hadith, reported by Imam Ahmad, states:

إن العبد إذا كان على طريقة حسنة من العبادة ثم مرض قيل للملك الموكل به اكتب له مثل عمله إذا كان طليقا حتى أطلقه أو أكفته إلي

« Verily, when my slave, who was on good way, while performing good deeds and worship, falls ill, then the angels authorized to record his deeds are instructed to write down for him a reward similar to the reward that he received for his deeds that he performed earlier, until Allah Almighty will heal him or until he dies».

Due to the fact that our earthly mind is limited to certain limits, we are not able to understand and appreciate the boundlessness of the mercy of Allah Almighty. He does not dishonor and does not oppress anyone unless the person deserves such a fate himself. The Almighty gives people illnesses and grants healing from them. Some become disabled as a result of an accident, others are disabled from birth. And this, too, lies the great wisdom of the Creator.

However, most people perceive this as a punishment for some sins or as someone’s curse, but not as the Grace of the Creator. While, perhaps, it is precisely thanks to these tests - limited physical capabilities, patience and diligence - that a person can be forgiven of his sins, and he can subsequently receive a great reward from the Almighty.

Our righteous predecessors, when the Prophet (ﷺ) told them about the dignity of such trials, did not even want to receive healing from this or that disease.

Abu Said (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“Whatever befalls a mumin’s body (from illness), it will be forgiveness of sins for him.” Hearing this, Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: " O Allah, I ask You that fever and fever do not leave me, that the body of Ubayy ibn Ka'b fights them until the moment when I meet you, and that this fever does not prevent me from fasting, performing namaz, hajj, dying and Jihad in the path of Allah" He immediately developed a fever, and it did not leave him until the end of his life. At the same time, he performed namaz, fasted, performed hajj, umrah and participated in ghazavat. (Ibn Asakir)

Another version of this hadith reported by Imam Ahmad states:

فما مسَّه إنسان إلا وجد حرّه

« Whoever touched it felt the heat ( high temperature) his body».

Also from Al-Ata ibn Abu Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him) it is transmitted:

“One day Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked me: “Should I show you a woman from among the inhabitants of Paradise?” I replied: “Yes, of course!” He said: “This black woman once came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: “I have attacks of epilepsy (obsession with jinn), and because of this I become naked, so turn to Allah with a prayer for me". In response to her, he said: “If you want, be patient, and then paradise awaits you, and if you want, I will turn to Allah with a prayer that He will heal you.” She said: “I will endure,” and then added: “Truly, I am naked, ask Allah not to be naked,” and the Prophet (ﷺ) turned to Allah with such a prayer for her.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

It is worth remembering that not every illness is a punishment; rather, it is a test and an opportunity to earn the boundless Grace of the Creator. The physical body, even if limited in any capabilities, is just a perishable shell. What is important is a person’s soul and his heart, illuminated by the light of faith.

However, in some cases, a person may receive one or another ailment as punishment. But this means that, most likely, his misdeeds will be forgiven in this world, and on the Day of Judgment he will be clear of them. Therefore, in most cases, illnesses, illnesses, physical limitations, etc. are good for humans.

CHILDREN BORN DISABLED

Question: what is the fault of children born disabled, blind, lame, deaf, dumb, mentally retarded or illegitimate, due to mistakes, alcoholism or illness of the parents? And if the child’s parents are kafirs or the child was born in a non-Muslim country where it is not very easy to learn about Islam, then is this fair to the child?

Answer: a true Muslim is one who has no other goal other than obtaining favor from Allah Almighty. While working, he will not give up worship and will not commit forbidden things, and while earning and spending what he earns, he will follow Islam. For such a person, both poverty and wealth are equally useful. But the other one is not satisfied with the fate given by Allah. If he is poor, he will complain that he doesn’t have enough. If you are rich, you will want even more and will spend what you earn on forbidden things. Both wealth and poverty will become a heavy burden for him in both worlds.

The harm or benefit of a physical disability may vary from person to person. If you are satisfied with your fate, Allah Almighty will grant you countless blessings of heaven. Anyone who is dissatisfied with the fate given by Allah will be awarded eternal punishment in Hell. A person does not know whether physical disability is useful or harmful for him.

For example, a student who is forced to retake an entire course of study: new friends appear from among his classmates. Due to the fact that among his new acquaintances there are righteous people, he takes the right path. You can, of course, think that he lost a whole year, and this is bad, but finding righteous acquaintances is the best in both worlds for him.

Some people dream of the latest car model. But having it, he can drive off a cliff in this car, where he will be with his entire family. Therefore, it is not enough to just want something, but you need to want it to become good and favorable. A child born disabled is sinless. If this is the parents’ fault, then the sin is on them. A blind man, if he were sighted, could ruin his akhirat. And someone, because of his “blindness,” will rebel against Allah Almighty, not accepting his predetermined fate, which will cause eternal misfortune.

A Muslim who is blind from birth, or who becomes so later, will enter Paradise. Two Hadith Sharifs say:

“Allahu ta’ala will not place a Muslim in Hell without both eyes.” (Tabarani)

“If a blind man shows patience, then Allahu ta’ala will grant him Paradise.” (Bukhari)

Not only the blind, but also other disabled people who show patience will enter Paradise without experiencing difficulties in the field of Mahshar. There are no physical disabilities in Paradise. Anyone who does not have faith, whether healthy or disabled, will remain in Hell forever.

Justice and kindness must not be confused! Sufficient justice has been shown to any person. Children of infidels who die without being intelligent will not enter Hell. And kafirs who have never heard of Islam will not enter. They will suffer punishment if they rejected Islam, Heaven and Hell after hearing about it.

ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCE

Intelligent people do not remain under the influence of their parents and environment. If they stayed, then the children from Muslim countries, raised by Muslim parents, would not have been deceived by the enemies of Islam into becoming atheists. They, having become reasonable, leave the faith. Parents are accused of being backward.

Such unpleasant incidents indicate a lack of parenting. And that's why, these days, leaving the faith looks like a massive disaster. This misfortune takes away both young and old. Few manage to escape from it.

On the other hand, some kafirs, scholars and famous people become Muslims. The fact that some people change their beliefs shows either a lack of education or proper education parents' data. A Muslim child who grows up receiving an Islamic upbringing is a gift from Allah! Allah does not do such good things to the children of infidels. Allah is not obligated to do good to everyone. Not doing good is not a crime. For example, if you buy a kilogram of rice in a store, then weighing exactly one kilogram will be fair. If you don't report, it will be a crime. If you put in a little more, it's a gift. No one is obliged to do such good things.
