Exclusive leggings are the ideal choice for a young fashionista. Sewing children's leggings without a ready-made pattern Pattern of leggings from children's knitwear

Hello, friends!

Very simple!

Although originally leggings were an attribute of men's clothing (think of a hussar or a courtier) and were made exclusively from elk skin (hence the “leggings”), now they are a favorite type of clothing made from a variety of materials by many.

After fashion shows in the 80s leggings They have firmly taken root in women’s culture and are not going to give up their positions.

Currently, tight-fitting trousers - leggings (leggings) are also in fashion.

Leggings now amaze with their diversity - made of thick and thin fabric, with a colorful print or geometric pattern, “under jeans” or “under leather”, at home and “for going out”, adults, teenagers, children. For every taste!

I think many will agree with me that leggings or leggings (from the English word leg) are...

Moreover, they can be worn as a top layer of clothing - like trousers or as underwear, which will keep you warm on a country walk and on frosty days. It all depends on the material chosen for leggings.

Hello, dear women and girls, lovers of sewing and creating with your own hands. Today we will talk about how to sew one of the most comfortable items in a woman’s wardrobe - leggings. They are comfortable and look beautiful on the figure; leggings can be combined with the most unusual shoulder products. Leggings can be classic, sporty, with rhinestones and decorations - for every taste of fashionistas!

Today I want to share my experience with you sewing fashionable leggings with artificial leather inserts. They will look very stylish:

To begin with, I want to make a reservation that I did not sew these leggings from the beginning (more precisely, I skipped the steps of constructing a pattern and cutting out parts from the fabric), since I took as a basis the leggings that I had lying around. I made them a few years ago but never wore them. And now I decided to use them to make such fashionable ones this season. leggings with leather inserts.

If you are not going, like me, to remake your existing leggings, then you have two options for further action:

  • make your own leggings pattern
  • cut leggings without a pattern, tracing old leggings

If you chose the first option - creating a pattern, then you will need to spend a little time, but then you will get leggings that fit perfectly on your figure.

I have already written a detailed article about creating a leggings pattern(synonymous with “leggings”). You can read the construction manual.

Leggings without a pattern

If you are still a little too lazy to make a pattern (I often catch myself doing this - I don’t like to do extra work and reinvent the wheel), then this option is leggings without a pattern- will suit you perfectly.

You will just need to trace your old leggings onto the fabric (if you have them, if not, you will have to build a pattern (().

To do this, compare the purchased fabric in terms of stretchability with the fabric of your existing leggings, trace taking into account the stretchability (if the purchased fabric is denser than the fabric of old leggings and stretches less, then when tracing the front and back parts of the leggings, add a couple of centimeters in width).

How to sew leggings with your own hands?

I will now sew leggings from thick knitwear with inserts of faux leather strips on the sides, leather inserts at the bottom of the leggings and leather pockets. These leggings will look great!

For these leggings I needed:

  • knitted fabric - 1 m (or leggings ready for alteration)
  • artificial leather - 0.3 m
  • elastic band 5 cm wide - 1 m

This is how my old leggings looked so simple, and besides, they were too small for me, since I love cakes and chocolate)))):

Then we cut the leggings on both sides along the side seam:

Along the bottom of the leggings we make leather inserts that will lengthen the leggings by 8 centimeters. To do this, we cut out four parts from leather, each of the parts looks like a continuation of the trouser leg, slightly tapered towards the bottom. We take allowances at the bottom of 2 cm. The length of the finished insert without allowances = 8-10 cm.

Cut out these 4 parts:

We sew two parts together along the inner (as if) seam of the leggings:

Then we sew these details along the bottom of the leggings:

Now we cut out long strips of leather equal to the length of the side cut of the leggings, 5-7 cm wide (excluding allowances):

I also decided to make a leather insert on the back of the leggings, a similar detail is usually cut out when sewing jeans, in this case it serves me to enlarge the back part of the leggings. Height is 5-7 cm in the wide part, and 3 cm in the narrow part.

Sew these two parts along the central seam:

Don’t forget to cut off the excess fabric at the seam allowances like this:

Sew the insert to the back parts of the leggings:

Now we sew a strip of leather onto both front or back parts of the leggings along the side seam, having previously basted it or pinned it with pins to avoid the fabric shifting relative to each other:

We cut out pockets of any shape from leather, you can take a pocket from any of your jeans as an example:

We mark the location of the pockets on the back of the leggings and pin them with pins:

Then we sew it on well, you can even stitch it in the center of the pockets, so that when wearing the product and stretching the knitwear, the leather pockets do not tear, because leather itself does not have much stretch.

Therefore, we sew the pockets with high quality:

In general, when sewing knitwear items, I always use this stitch on the machine (marked in red in the photo), since when the seam is stretched, it gives a tight stitch and the seam does not tear, this is very important when working with knitwear. And, of course, a stretch needle.

Made from knitted fabric. And in this one, I'll show you. And describing this process is more difficult than sewing. For such trousers, I always buy two lengths of trouser fabric with an allowance of 15 cm and when the fabric falls out in the middle, I get another pair of trousers, three for the price of two.

Create a pattern taking into account the characteristics of the knitted fabric. And before cutting, you need to add the width of the elastic to the seat height of the trousers along the TC -3 segment. My elastic band is 2.5 cm wide, and I added them accordingly. From (..) TC, B and (.) 3 up, set aside the width of the elastic 2.5 cm, connect the dots and get a new waist line. You can add seam allowances if you use a 4-thread overlocker, 0.5 cm each, or with a zigzag stitch of 1 cm. In this form, with allowances, cut out the pattern. I always sign patterns if they already have allowances.

Fold the knitwear in half with the fold towards you. The vertical line on the pattern from (.) TB is the middle of the trousers and at the same time the grain thread in the fabric. Before laying out the pattern, you need to find the bottom of the knitted fabric. If you slightly pull the cut, the fabric will either curl or “shoot arrows”, so the second option is the bottom of the knitwear and the bottom of the trousers. I'll explain why this is so. The line of the waist and hips is the active part of the trousers and it is important that it serves for a long time, without “shooting”, and the edge of the knitwear, which does not unravel, will help us with this. So we found out where the top of the trousers will be. Attach the pattern at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. Pin it in (.) SS or TP. Measure the distance from (.) TB to the fold of the fabric. I have 50.5 cm. And move the point of the middle of the bottom by the same distance. The share line has been met. Cut the pattern, taking into account seam allowances or without allowances, if they are provided in the pattern. Before cutting another trousers, I recommend sewing some, making changes to the pattern, and then cutting the rest. The second trousers are cut by placing the pattern at the hem under the first, and the third trousers are cut in the central lunge.

Place on the front side of the trousers and sew a fine zigzag stitch, slightly stretching the fabric.

Turn the seam allowance up. Set the seam to a “large zigzag” and stitch slightly stretching the fabric. I don’t overcast so as not to create excessive thickness.

Result.

Now pin the side seams, position the pins parallel to the seam.

If you have a 4-thread overlocker, adjust the fine pitch and overcast the seam. If not, then stitch with a small zigzag and overcast with a large one. It is imperative to stretch the fabric so that the seam does not burst during use.

Insert the trouser legs, align the crotch seams and (..)3 with the vehicle. Stitch using an overlocker or zigzag.

Measure your waist with an elastic band to make it comfortable, subtract 1.5 cm, add 3 cm to overlap the joint. Bend the elastic band in half, mark the bend points with a ballpoint pen, connect the marked points and also put marks in the places of new folds. Connect the seams of the front and back of the waistline on the trousers, and make 3 mm cuts in the places of the side folds. Now connect the elastic band into a ring and stitch it on the machine. And connect the marked 4 points on the waist of the trousers and the elastic band. Pin the elastic with pins, 4 are enough, place them in the middle of the elastic.

Sew a stitch on an overlocker or with a large zigzag, stretching the elastic; I recommend sewing from the side of the trousers, and not as in the photo, in order to control the connection of the knitwear and elastic. It happens that the machine does not grip the fabric and you end up with unpleasant holes, which then need to be stitched again.

Bend the elastic to the wrong side and sew a large zigzag stitch, moving from the edge of the elastic to the width of the foot, the elastic also needs to be stretched, otherwise the stitch will burst during use.

How to sew leggings, you now know and understand that it is very simple, I spent an hour and a half making three trousers, not counting making the pattern.

Tight trousers for your slender figures, dear needlewomen!

Leggings are a very popular outfit for women because they make it very easy to show off your slim figure. But not only! It is convenient to spend leisure time in them, play sports, and just walk. This comfort is achieved due to the fabric from which they are sewn - elastic and bi-elastic knitted fabrics. Leggings can be combined with a blouse or T-shirt as an independent type of clothing, or complemented with a skirt or dress.

Leggings are:

  1. Classic- plain ones, which you can wear either separately or under a skirt or dress.
  2. Capri leggings- their length can be ankle-length or slightly higher. They mostly come in bright colors and are especially popular when paired with a miniskirt.
  3. Evening leggings- suggest the presence of lace trim, sequins, stones, beads, etc.
  4. Sportswear not leggings- for sports, active recreation and walks.
  5. Leggings(jeggings)- a combination of leggings and jeans, made from knitwear to match jeans, elastic and tight-fitting to the legs.
  6. Treggings— the appearance imitates tight trousers, they are sewn from thick fabric and can be decorated with studs and patch pockets.

What to wear with leggings?

These are clothes that are intended not only for sports, but also for everyday life. They go well with long T-shirts, tunics, long pullovers, sweaters, dresses and skirts. Depending on the event, there are many different options and combinations.

What shoes should I pair leggings with?

It is better to combine with closed-toe shoes - ballet flats, pumps, ankle boots, high heel boots, wedges or flat soles.

If you're a fan of leggings, it's important to follow these rules:

  1. When combined with a skirt or dress, the length of the leggings should be lower than the length of the dress or skirt.
  2. Cannot be combined with sneakers (except for sports models).
  3. You should not wear similar accessories or clothing with leopard-colored leggings.
  4. For curvy women, leggings are best paired with a voluminous top.

Basic leggings pattern

IMPORTANT! Since these are very tight-fitting clothes, which are sewn only from elastic materials, all increases are made negative, that is, the volumes and lengths of the measurement values are reduced depending on the elasticity of the fabric.

The pattern is made for size 46. To create a basic leggings pattern, you need to take the following measurements:

  1. Hip circumference 98 cm
  2. Seat height 25.5
  3. Knee height 57.5 cm
  4. Calf height 15.5 cm (measured from the knee to the widest part of the calf)
  5. Hip circumference 58 cm
  6. Knee circumference 40 cm
  7. Calf circumference 36 cm
  8. Ankle circumference 23 cm
  9. Leggings length (ankle length) 98 cm

Rice. 1. Leggings pattern

Start the construction from the upper left corner - point A. Set aside the horizontal segment AA1 = 49 - 4 = 45 cm (half hip circumference minus 4 cm.

IMPORTANT! The negative increase for volume measurements is 10-20%, for length measurements - 5%.

Advice! Negative increases should be increased or decreased depending on the elasticity of the fabric.

Divide AA1 in half - point A2. From point A2, lower the perpendicular down at a right angle, put it down along the perpendicular: A2D2 = 25.5 cm (Seat height according to measurement), A2K2 = 57.5 cm (Knee height according to measurement), K2L2 = 15.5 cm (Shin height according to measurement), A2H2=98 cm (Length of leggings according to measurement).

IMPORTANT! The length of leggings may vary depending on the model.

Step line. Draw a horizontal line through point D2. From points A and A1, lower perpendiculars down until they intersect with the line - points D and C are obtained.

Hip line. From point D2, move up D2В2 = 7.9 cm (1/10 Half hip circumference according to measurement + 3 cm).

Draw a horizontal segment through point B2 - points B and B1 are obtained.

From point D2 to the left and to the right, set aside 27 cm (1/2 of the hip circumference according to the measurement minus 2 cm). Points D1 and C1 are obtained.

From point K2, set aside ½ of the knee circumference to the right and left according to the measurement minus 40/2 = 20 cm - points K and K1 are obtained.

From point H2, set aside ½ ankle circumference to the right and left according to the measurement minus 2 cm: 23/2-2 = 9.5 cm. Connect points D1K, KN, C1K1 and K1H1 with straight auxiliary lines.

Waistline. From point A to the right, set aside 4 cm: AA4 = 4 cm. You can increase the value of AA4 to 6 cm, depending on your waist measurement. Connect point A4 and point B.

From point A1, move 5-6 cm to the left and 2 cm down. Connect the resulting point with point B1 with a straight segment.

Decorate the waist line with a slightly curved line; to process the belt, add a one-piece facing under the elastic band, 2.2-3 cm wide.

Bow cut line. Measure the distance CC1 and set aside ½ of this value from point C upward: CC2 = CC1/2. Connect points C1 and C2 with a straight line. Draw a cutting line for the bow as shown in the drawing.

Draw the cut line for the back half of the leggings in the area from point B to point D1 with a curved line along the pattern.

Step cutting lines. From points K and K1, set aside 2 cm to the right and left (the negative increase in the KK1 section can be from 10% to 20%), from points L and L1 to the right and left, set aside 1 cm. Draw smooth curved lines of step cuts of the front and back halves of leggings are the same.

ADVICE! To make it convenient to process the bottom cut of the leggings, from the bottom line (HH1) make step cuts at right angles, then along the pattern.

After constructing the pattern, check all the girths on the lines: waist, hips, step, knee, shin and ankle. Cut out the front and back halves in one piece without a side seam, with seam allowances of 1 cm and bottom allowances of 2 cm.

An excellent master class on how to sew children's leggings in 30 minutes, and without spending money on material. Because leggings for a child can easily be made from an unwanted T-shirt of one of the parents. How to do this - read below. And also see how it looks in practice in the video with a master class from Dana and Miranda.

How to sew leggings for a child with your own hands? What fabric to make children's leggings from? All these questions are very understandable on the eve of summer, when children scratch the knees of their pants and leggings at the speed of sound, so that within a week, children’s wardrobes can easily become empty. In addition, not all mothers are ready to buy new leggings as soon as the child ruins the ones he has.

We offer a very simple and understandable master class from Dana, author of the Madeeveryday blog and her friend Miranda, the “queen of DIY leggings,” on how to sew children’s leggings with your own hands in 20 minutes.

How to sew children's leggings with your own hands: make a pattern

To make a pattern before sewing your baby's leggings, Dana suggests using the baby leggings your baby is wearing.

Take a piece of paper you have, it could be wrapping paper or even wallpaper. If you have baby leggings that fit your baby but are no longer needed, cut them down the inseam. Place the resulting part on paper and trace it. Don't forget to allow an allowance (2-3 cm) for the elastic. Cut out the pattern.

How to sew leggings for a child with your own hands: method No. 1

To make leggings for a child from a T-shirt, attach the pattern made from the first sample to a clean, ironed adult-sized T-shirt, so that the bottom edge of the pattern matches the bottom edge of the T-shirt. This way you won't have to finish the bottom edge of your leggings. Cut out the pieces.

Fold the piece in half, wrong side out. Sew the inside seam of the trouser leg. Use the stitch on your sewing machine for knitted fabrics.

After both legs are sewn, you need to sew them together. Turn one pant leg right side out and tuck it into the other pant leg, as Dana does at minute 7:40. Pin or baste the crotch seams. Sew.

How to sew children's leggings: method No. 2

To sew leggings from a piece of jersey fabric, as Miranda does, you need to fold it in half and then fold it again. Attach a pattern made according to the second sample, marking the fold. Cut by making an allowance at the bottom.

Miranda makes leggings with a yoga waist, padded waistband, so she cuts out another piece. To figure out what size piece you need for children's leggings with a soft waistband, measure your child's waist. If you want the belt to fit snugly, subtract 7-8 cm from your waist circumference. This will be the length of the part. The width of the part is 16 cm, in order to obtain a belt 8 cm wide.

One more thing, Miranda sews leggings using an overlocker. This way there is no need to further process the seams.

How to sew leggings with a soft belt with your own hands using an overlocker. Take one pant leg, fold it in half, and sew the inner seam. We do the same with the other pant leg.

Then, as Dana showed earlier, we turn one pant leg right side out and tuck it into the other. Sew the crotch seams.

Now let's grab the belt. Fold the piece in half, wrong side out, and sew the edges together to make a circle. Fold the resulting circle in half, right side out, and put it on almost finished leggings, turning it inside out, as in the video at 13:30 minutes. If there is a print on the fabric, you need to pay attention so that the direction of the pattern on the leggings and the belt coincides; in this case, Miranda draws attention to the fact that the berries all “look” in the same direction.

Sew it together. Two layers of belt and actual leggings. Since the waistband is slightly shorter than the waistband circumference of the leggings, you will need to tighten the waistband slightly while sewing.

To finish the bottom of the legs, roll them in a couple of centimeters and turn them inside out, as Miranda shows at 14:20. This way, when you stitch on the overlocker, you will get a neat seam. Be careful not to cut off anything unnecessary.
